first blitzFirst Blitz: Bombing London in the First World War

$19.95

This book tells the story of Germany’s strategic air offensive against Britain, and how it came to be neutralized. The first Zeppelin attack on London came in May 1915 – and with it came the birth of a new arena of warfare, the ‘home front’. German airships attempted to raid London on 26 separate occasions between May 1915 and October 1917, but only reached the capital and bombed successfully on nine occasions.

From May 1917 onwards, this theatre of war entered a new phase as German Gotha bombers set out to attack London in the first bomber raid. London’s defenses were again overhauled to face this new threat, providing the basis for Britain’s defense during World War II.

This comprehensive volume tells the story of the first aerial campaign in history, as the famed Zeppelins, and then the Gotha and the massive Staaken ‘Giant’ bombers waged war against the civilian population of London in the first ever ‘Blitz’.

Orc Warfare is an interpretation of how orcs live and war; the two are very closely related.  Chris starts by taking a look at the social and racial structures.  From there he moves to detailed descriptions of orc troops.  The last section is an anthology on tales of historic orc victories.

Orc Warfare goes over the orc physique for each of the “sub types” – goblins, orcs, and great orcs.  Without spoiling too much, goblins are about four feet tall and amount to roughly twenty-five percent of the population.  Orcs are the dominant of the species and they fill more roles in society.  The great orcs are effectively born  for war.  Being the largest of the species, you can imagine how they might be used, but you don’t have to because Chris gives us more than enough information on them.

Duncan Molloy is the lead game designer for Osprey Publishing.  I caught him at Origins to talk about some of their newest games.  They Come Unseen has a really cool history.

I’m really looking forward to They Come unseen.  I’m a big fan of hidden movement games, it creates some suspense.

IHMIn Her Majesty’s Name is a miniatures war game that is set in a steam pink setting of 1895. Small bands of of figures are assembled to fight over the objectives you establish. This is a skirmish game where you will generally field not more than ten models per player. Written by by Craig Cartmell and Charles Murton the book totals 64 pages costs about 15.00 and is also available as a pdf. If you know of any book published by Osprey publishing you already know the quality you’re getting.

This Skirmish game can be bloody quick. I’ve had games last as little as 15 minutes or as long as an hour. Play is pretty smooth, it uses an alternate activation system where models take turns following the model play of move and shoot.
