Counting down to Gen Con T-4 Arena of the Planeswalker

Road to Gen Con 2015, Wizards of the Coast  Comments Off on Counting down to Gen Con T-4 Arena of the Planeswalker
Jul 252015

planes_mdArena of the Planeswalker is one of those games that is kind a mystery.  There isn’t a lot of information on it but it’s made by Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast.   The fact that it’s mad by both companies kind of worries me, but I will give it a fair shot.   They did good things in my opinion with Heroscape and it looks this game will be using a lot of those mechanics.

Where are my concerns?

My first concern is that Hasbro won’t play nice.  That is if Hasbro asserts too much influence the Magic the Gathering Themed game might loos that magic feel and therefore it’s luster to gamers.

It may never have achieved that magic feel so it’s only a miniatures game made to look like Heroscape.

Magic the Gathering has a very large arsenal of mechanics, I hope they can break it down to a starter level.

I hope the mini’s look good.

It might just be the rebirth of Heroscape, which isn’t the direction I would like a Magic the Gathering Board game to go.

Why I want this.

Magic the Gathering has been a part of my life for years.  I have always desired cool figures and I hope that The Planeswalker Arena gives Magic the feel of  two mages dueling it out.   At this point I believe the two companies probably have a solid foundation to build on.

This is my Review of Linko.  Linko is a card game, from Ravenburger Games, that just about anyone can play.  It’s nominated for an Origins Award.

I didn’t know what to expect from this, but it’s one of those light games that you can easily find refreshing.

Sellswords is a 2 player grid building Othello-like card game that has a drafting mechanic,  Since it is a drafting mechanic and is played with an open hand there is a tremendous amount of tactical thinking.  Sellswords can be learned in less than fifteen minutes and takes about 30 minutes to play.

I’m a huge fan of Sellswords.  I think it’s the best 2 player game of 2014.  Run over to Level 99 get yourself a copy

PleasantPleasant Dreams: The Card Game of Nightmares

$20.00

You are in a deep sleep; your mind is filled with Pleasant Dreams. As the night wears on, dream fragments conspire to lead you on a nightmarish journey. When bliss twists into terror, will you succumb to shock or sustain your slumber?

Pleasant Dreams is a one or two-player card game placing the players in a dreamworld where they fend off nightmares. The goal of the game is to trick your opponent into drawing so many nightmarish dream fragments that he or she wakes up. Alternatively you can win the game by being the first player to finish the dream without waking up.

During the game, you’ll be trying to outwit your opponent by manipulating The Dreaming, and deciding whether or not to push your luck by delving deeper into the deck. Each turn of the game starts with the player deciding how many dream fragments they want to resolve. Pleasant ones help you relax, while the unpleasant ones bring you closer to waking up screaming. You can have some of the cards come back later by secretly inserting them anywhere into the dream deck.

Decide whether you want to hold on to pleasant fragments of your dream…but beware, anything may come back to haunt you! Sweet dreams…
