Pridon’s Hearth is Sargava’s newest colony, pushing the country’s borders further south than ever before and attracting treasure-hunters, fortune-seekers, and troubled souls hoping for a fresh start. But unnaturally powerful storms rock the tiny settlement just as the local lizardfolk tribe declares war on the colonists within. Are these threats somehow related? What became of the heretical cult of Gozreh that journeyed to the region a century ago, and do its corrupt teachings hold the key to calming the growing hurricane? Can the heroes protect the growing community from raging tempests and hostile monsters alike? And what role does the shadowy Aspis Consortium play in these recent dangers? These challenges and more await heroes willing to face down the Ire of the Storm!

At Gen Con I had the chance to catch up with Scott Hill from Flying Frog Productions.  We chatted for about an hour so I broke it down into three parts.  This part we talk about the history of the frog, the philosophy of their business model and the story behind their name.

In Part 2 We focus on Shadows of Brimstone.

In Part three we talk about everything else the frog has to offer, Dark Gothic, their approach to game design – standards, and future releases.

I look forward to many great things from the “Frog”.

Duncan Molloy is the lead game designer for Osprey Publishing.  I caught him at Origins to talk about some of their newest games.  They Come Unseen has a really cool history.

I’m really looking forward to They Come unseen.  I’m a big fan of hidden movement games, it creates some suspense.

WARPO RETURNS TO GEN CON WITH LEGENDS OF CTHULHU

Slew of Activities includes All-Star Cthulhu Summit with Live Séance for the Ghost of H.P. Lovecraft, Cthulhu Costumed Character, Prizes and More!

CHICAGO, IL (July 22, 2015): Last year, Team Warpo attended Gen Con having just completed their successful Kickstarter to create the retro action figure line, Legends of Cthulhu, which has now become truly legendary. This year, Warpo returns to Gen Con as a proud recipient of Gen Con’s Marketing Fellowship, with a booth filled with Cthulhu activities and the critically acclaimed Legends of Cthulhu action figures, and as host of the epic Cthulhu All-Stars Summit, which will culminate in a live séance for the ghost of H.P. Lovecraft.

Warpo, along with co-sponsor Paizo, has assembled some of the industry’s leading Cth-experts to host the first Cthulhu All-Stars Summit, taking place Saturday at Noon in Paizo seminar room #233. Join moderators Paizo creative director James Jacobs and Warpo president Bryan Katzel, along with Sandy Petersen, Kenneth Hite, and occult expert Brandon Hodge, as they discuss the impact of H.P. Lovecraft’s stories and characters on popular culture and their work. The panel will hold some fantastic surprises, prizes, and will culminate with a live séance conducted by Brandon Hodge to entice Lovecraft himself to join the festivities.

Gen Con attendees will want to visit the Warpo booth (#2939 in the Exhibit Hall), where they will be greeted by the mighty Cthulhu himself, get their picture taken in front of the giant photo wall than puts them inside their own action figure packaging, and collect all four free daily Legends of Cthulhu buttons. Gen Con fans will also get their first look at the new 12” Cthulhu Standard Edition, 12” Cthulhu Glow in the Dark Edition, and the Legends of Cthulhu Collector Club Kit, all of which will be on display in the Warpo booth, and the full line of Legends of Cthulhu 3.75” action figures and select Kickstarter premiums, such as the LoC coloring book and posters, will be available for purchase.

Warpo’s costumed Cthulhu will be making his way around Gen Con, as well as hanging out in the Warpo booth, providing an opportunity for fans to take and post a pic to social media, with the hashtag #CthulhuIsComing. One lucky winner will be chosen from the social media feeds each day to win one of the Signature Series Legends of Cthulhu figures, and in the final drawing on Saturday, a chance to win the one-of-a-kind 12” Cthulhu Glow in the Dark Edition prototype. Winner must be present at the Warpo booth at the time of the drawing.

Gen Con, North America’s largest hobby gaming convention, takes place in Indianapolis, IN July 30 – August 2, 1015.

Legends of Cthulhu retro action figures are available at BigBadToyStore, Think Geek, comic book stores, and in toy and hobby shops nationwide.

Blue Orange Games Expands Catalog to Include New Europe Collection at Origins 2015

SAN FRANCISCO, CA—May 15, 2015— Blue Orange Games, leading publisher of tabletop games for children and families, announces their new line of European designer games: the Blue Orange Europe Collection available to consumers for purchase for the first time at the Origins Game Fair. This collection of games will offer all of the simplicity and quality that the industry has grown to expect from a Blue Orange game, but with titles specifically developed with Hobby and Specialty Store Markets in mind, with slightly more mature themes and complex mechanics.

“We are excited to bring the best “gamer” games from Europe through our Blue Orange Europe product line with games from famous game designers such as Seiji Kanai, Bruno Cathala, Bruno Faidutti, and Charles Chevallier.” said Martin Marechal, VP of Sales and Marketing. “Last year, we tested the waters by bringing over a few of the games from Blue Orange Europe such as Battle Sheep, Niya and BraveRats. When we saw how overwhelmingly positive the response was for these games, we decided to bring other games to expand further, and offer even more games in this spirit.”

AN ARMY OF GIANTS MARCHES INTO THE PATHFINDER ROLEPLAYING GAME’S NEWEST ADVENTURE PATH, GIANTSLAYER

Newest 6-Part Campaign Kicks-Off with the first Installment, “Battle of Bloodmarch Hill”

REDMOND, WA (March 2, 2015): Paizo Inc., publisher of the wildly popular Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, announces today the kick-off of the Giantslayer Adventure Path, the latest 6-part adventure series in the award-winning world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game. Pathfinder Adventure Path #91: Battle of Bloodmarch Hill, written by Patrick Renie, is now available in hobby game stores nationwide, and on paizo.com.

Deep in the Mindspin Mountains, a storm giant warlord known as the Storm Tyrant is gathering an army of giants from across western Avistan—first to bring the orc hordes of Belkzen under his banner, then to conquer the neighboring realms. Working their way through an abandoned border fort, an ancient giant temple, the tomb of an undead frost giant, and an elite fire giant training facility beneath a dormant volcano, the heroes eventually take the fight to the Storm Tyrant himself inside his flying fortress. Can the giant army be defeated, or will all of Avistan bow down in fealty to the Storm Tyrant?

“Giantslayer is a return to the blood-and-thunder, sword-and-sorcery roots of the Pathfinder RPG,” says Paizo Publisher Erik Mona. “Our last few campaigns have jumped from world to world, cast the heroes and super-legendary über-heroes fighting off a demon invasion, and other madness. Giantslayer tells an epic fantasy story against epic villains that helps players and GMs get back to basics in the most ass-kickingest way we know how.”

The Giantslayer Adventure Path includes 6 monthly, 96-page, full-color softcover books:

–       AP #91: Battle of BloodMarch Hill (February)

–       AP #92: The Hill Giant’s Pledge (March)

–       AP #93: Forge of the Giant God (April)

–       AP #94: Ice Tomb of the Giant Queen (May)

–       AP #95: Anvil of Fire (June)

–       AP #96: Shadow of the Storm Tyrant (July)

–       Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Giantslayer Poster Map Folio (July)

Each volume contains an in-depth Adventure Path scenario, stats for new monsters, and several support articles meant to give Game Masters additional material to expand their campaign.

Words With Owen K.C. Stephens Part 1&2

It’s the season for RPG Superstar and I managed to borrow some of Owen K.C. Stephens time fo ran interview.

I broke it into two parts, Bio and RPG Superstar/writing tips.   I was going to break into a third part but that would have made it a little awkward.  Any way here is what we talked about

The first 6 minutes of my interview with Owen discusses his history. His humble beginnings at Wizards of the Coast and his journey to Paizo.

In this next portion of the interview we discuss RPG Superstar and writing.   Looking back I can see how closely related the writing is to RPG Superstar – on your first listen it might seem like we get distracted. The reality of it is that writing is really the essence of RPG Superstar.  I hope you enjoy it.

I apologize for my user error.  I made myself the presenter and I omitted Owen from the camera. But you have to thank him anyway, he saved you by giving me some of his favorite photos for a slide show saving your eyes from face.

RPG Superstar round four just ended and the finalists will be announced tonight. If you haven’t taken part in the contest it’s not too late to join the community. I’ve been gaming a long time and I have to say it’s one of the best communities to be involved in.
