Matt’s Dark Ascension Picks

Wow! It is that time already another Magic Prerelease is upon us.  I am sorry for not doing this sooner, but I have been busy making some videos for the blog and trying to pay for life.  So Dark Ascension is what we are going to talk about.  Specifically my picks.  Since this is my second ever set review I am trying to be different.   my reviews will always differ from the other guys because I am a both competitive and casual and a judge.   I tend to look at a set and say wow this is cool or this really stands out for this deck.   What you won’t get from this is the best draft picks, or replacement cards in deck types.  What you will get is a broader selection.  I don’t care about only the competitive end of the game.

With that said I am going to take a different approach this time.  Since, Dark Ascension is only 150 cards I ma cutting my selection to only 3 cards per color one common, an uncommon, and a rare.  Starting with black.

I think the best three cards in black are GravePurge,  Wakedancer, and GraveCrawler.

GravePurge

Because putting a card(s) on top of your library from your graveyard and drawing it is cool. The fact that it is an instant makes it really good.

WakeDancer

She has all the synergy you want in a card.  Cheap to play and a good ability.

Gravecrawler

What can I say undead should always be played from the graveyard

Magic the Gathering Grand Prix Pittsburgh 2011

Well, I really wish I had a lot more time to hype this Magic the Gathering event up – I don’t.  Here is the run down.  I am Leaving early Friday (Augus26th 2011) morning, after sending the children off to school, to judge at the Grand Prix in Pittsburgh (standard).  Between now and then I have to maintain my Dad’s Kitchen image for the kids, study more, shop for food (I always take some healthy foods just in case), and pack.  They are a very fun, and educating experience.  If you are a judge, Grand Prix’s are an awesome avenue for learning.  There are so many players and judges there that you will something new at every event, and most likely each day.   Since you are broken down into teams it is an excellent time to set a goal for yourself, like learning layering.  OOPS!  I’m rambling.  This event is going to be extremely busy.   There will be about 50 judges to handle about 1500 players.  That is going to be a lot of work.  I am looking forward to it though.

The artists attending are RK Post and Christopher Moeller.  I always look forward to getting some cards signed and buying at least one print.

Well enough about the Grand Prix for now.  I will Try and have a GP report up by Tuesday August 30th.

It seems like only it was only yesterday that I played my first WARMACHINE game.  I remember thinking it was a fun game and that the company would bury themselves.  Well,  not only was I wrong they made it through ten years of gamers.  I am sure Privateer looks back at the ten years with puffy chests, and they should.   They have accomplished so many great things.  But that is not why I am writing you today.  In all of the partying Privateer has announced a 10th anniversary no Quarter.  It is going to be one massive issue with reflections of the past.   But, that is not all Privateer Press is running all kinds of sales as part of the celebrations.

So thank you, Privateer Press for remembering us in your success.
