The heroes explore the tomb of a legendary giantslayer before venturing into the Mindspin Mountains in search of the valley where the Storm Tyrant is recruiting giants for his army. The adventurers must confront the numerous giants inhabiting the winding valley before making their way to the giant headquarters, an ancient temple to the giant god Minderhal, which contains a powerful artifact. SEARCH FOR RPG SUPERSTAR 2015

Paizo Launches Annual Contest to Find the Next Generation of Game Designers

REDMOND, WA (December 9, 2014): Paizo Inc., creator of the popular Pathfinder Roleplaying Game, announces today’s kick-off of RPG Superstar 2015, the annual, worldwide open call for would-be game designers to have their talents discovered, and the chance at being published in an official Pathfinder RPG module.

Now in its 8th year, RPG Superstar receives thousands of entries from all over the world, which are reviewed by a panel of experienced game designers, and then voted on by the paizo.com community, who have cast millions of votes over the years.

The winner of the competition will have their adventure published by Paizo as a Pathfinder Module, a full-color, 64-page, high-quality softcover book, compatible with not only the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game (RPG), but also with any game published under the Open Gaming License (OGL). Also, three runners-up will win assignments to write adventure scenarios for Paizo’s Pathfinder Society Organized Play campaign, offering all four finalists professional writing contracts with Paizo Inc., and an opportunity to begin their game design careers by working on the world’s best-selling roleplaying game.

RPG Superstar will see a new Master of Ceremonies this year, game designer Owen K. C. Stephens, who promises more surprises, and more difficult challenges. Says Stephens, “Ramping up the degree of difficulty in several rounds is a result of how consistently amazing the entries have been year after year. We’re convinced the talent pool exists to make several of the stages tougher than previous years, and that the best contestants are going to thrive under the pressure.”

The first big change is to Round One, which has traditionally called for the design of a special type of magic treasure known as a wondrous item. For the 2015 contest, contestants are asked to create an original magic Item from one of the following categories: suit of armor, shield, weapon, staff, ring, or rod.

Round One is now open for magic item designs, which must be submitted by December 16, 2014 to be considered for moving on to the next round. There will be four rounds in all, and winners will be announced on March 24, 2015. For more information, or to submit an entry, visit paizo.com/rpgsuperstar.

The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game is the world’s best-selling tabletop RPG, in which players take on the role of brave adventurers fighting to survive in a world beset by magic and evil. Mike invited me to his “palatial” suite at Gen Con 2014, and I happily accepted the invite.  It isn’t every day that an aspiring author has the chance to speak with a best selling author about the industry.

Mike and I discussed:

  • His Gen Con seminars
  • The Crusader Road, his first Pathfinder novel
  • Possibility of a second Pathfinder novel
  • His next book
  • His day job

You can find Mike on Twitter.

Pathfinder Adventure Path: Shattered Star: Beyond the Doomsday Door

$ 19.99

Chapter 4: “Beyond the Doomsday Door” by Tito Leati The hunt for the seven shards of the Shattered Star leads the heroes back to the western coast of Varisia, to the multifaith monastery known as Windsong Abbey. The next shard of the Shattered Star appears to be hidden somewhere within the dungeons below the abbey. But when the PCs arrive, they find the monastery in ruins and held by savage giants and twisted fey! An ancient terror has returned home, and now dwells within the deep dungeons below—a terror who hopes to open the dread Doomsday Door deep within! “Beyond the Doomsday Door” is a Pathfinder Roleplaying Game adventure for 10th-level characters. This volume continues the Shattered Star Adventure Path, in which players explore dungeons and wilderness in search of a powerful artifact. This volume offers an examination of the monstrous proto-demons known as qlippoth and an essay on Groteus (god of oblivion and ruins). New monsters fill the Pathfinder Bestiary, while Bill Ward’s Pathfinder Journal fiction explores the seedy underbelly of the scoundrel haven of Riddleport! Each monthly full-color softcover Pathfinder Adventure Path volume contains an in-depth adventure scenario, stats for several new monsters, and support articles meant to giveGame Masters additional material to expand their campaign. Pathfinder Adventure Path volumes use the Open Game License and work with both the Pathfinder RPG and the world’s oldest fantasy RPG.

Pathfinder Campaign Setting: Inner Sea Bestiary

$ 19.99

You can never have too many monsters! This book contains 46 new monsters found in the Inner Sea region—all invented specifically for the Pathfinder Campaign Setting! Some, like the gearsmen of Numeria or the moth-like star monarchs who serve the goddess of dreams, have been mentioned many times in Pathfinder Campaign Setting books, but others like the alien vespergaunt or Rahadoum’s desert-dwelling whirlmaws have only been obliquely illustrated or mentioned before. And some make their appearance for the first time in print after debuting in Paizo’s office campaigns (like the mysterious and ancient veiled masters, or the disturbingly alluring fungus queen). With monsters ranging in challenge rating from 1/2 (such as the capering monkey goblin or the enigmatic lashuntas) all the way up to beyond CR 20 (including two immense spawn of Rovagug and three powerful outsiders with sinister agendas for the Inner Sea region, like the exiled infernal duke Lorthact), along with three new monstrous templates (the exotic mind-draining vetala vampire, the blighted fey of Fangwood, and the twisted mutants of the Mana Wastes), the 64-page Inner Sea Bestiary is set to add a host of new favorite beasties to any Pathfinder game! By Jim Groves, James Jacobs, Rob McCreary, Erik Mona, Jason Nelson, Patrick Renie, F. Wesley Schneider, James L. Sutter, Russ Taylor, Greg A. Vaughan.

Check out these and so mush more from Paizo Publishing today and make your own adventures with friends soon.
