As part of Con survival week I’ve decided to share with you one of my favorite recipes for an energy/protein bar.  This Chocolate Cherry bare is simple to make and is far healthy for you than thos things you would by at your gas station.

It has a balance of protein, carbs, and fat that is just about right for me when I’m on the move or when I go longer between meals than I should.

I hope to see you at Gen Con, and I have to thank all of my kickstarter backers for inspiring me to make this happen it was a lot of fun.

Counting down to Gen Con T-4 Arena of the Planeswalker

Road to Gen Con 2015, Wizards of the Coast  Comments Off on Counting down to Gen Con T-4 Arena of the Planeswalker

planes_mdArena of the Planeswalker is one of those games that is kind a mystery.  There isn’t a lot of information on it but it’s made by Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast.   The fact that it’s mad by both companies kind of worries me, but I will give it a fair shot.   They did good things in my opinion with Heroscape and it looks this game will be using a lot of those mechanics.

Where are my concerns?

My first concern is that Hasbro won’t play nice.  That is if Hasbro asserts too much influence the Magic the Gathering Themed game might loos that magic feel and therefore it’s luster to gamers.

It may never have achieved that magic feel so it’s only a miniatures game made to look like Heroscape.

Magic the Gathering has a very large arsenal of mechanics, I hope they can break it down to a starter level.

I hope the mini’s look good.

It might just be the rebirth of Heroscape, which isn’t the direction I would like a Magic the Gathering Board game to go.

Why I want this.

Magic the Gathering has been a part of my life for years.  I have always desired cool figures and I hope that The Planeswalker Arena gives Magic the feel of  two mages dueling it out.   At this point I believe the two companies probably have a solid foundation to build on.

This is my Review of Linko.  Linko is a card game, from Ravenburger Games, that just about anyone can play.  It’s nominated for an Origins Award.

I didn’t know what to expect from this, but it’s one of those light games that you can easily find refreshing.

Alignment is one of those weird game mechanics that can be viewed as both a hindrance and an aid. Because of this it is often the victim of a love hate type of relationship among players that can cause some heated disagreements. If they could apply their thoughts to its use they would not have so many words in lost to indifference.

When I speak of alignment in this article I’m not referring to any one system or style. I’m instead writing about the concept of what it can be in the development of character. If you apply such a system to developing the personality of your individual I believe it can be invaluable. Many of us walk through our lives with no “moral” code, at least not the way an alignment is is presented in game terms. That’s because games have a difficult time presenting alignment in an effective way. Since many alignments are presented as a code that creates a struggle of some sort, usually good and evil, they have to be broad so players can use them effectively with their creations. Not to mention many characters are created with to be adults ready to start their adventuring career. In reality this couldn’t be farther from the truth. In the real world we develop our “alignment” over years of character growth. For us our alignment is directly linked to what we believe, or to be more accurate, what we have come to believe. That is our faith directs our choices. This could mean you are guided by religion, science, or philosophy. It doesn’t matter what guides your thoughts what matters is that when you apply this to your character she has already lost years of development.
