Sun King to Make a Golden Belgian Ale for Gen Con’s 50th

INDIANAPOLIS (January 20, 2017) Gen Con, the longest-running gaming convention in North America, has announced a renewal of their partnership with Sun King Brewing Company, continuing an uninterrupted relationship that began in 2012. As part of this partnership extension, Sun King will craft the official beer for the historic Gen Con 50, operate an outdoor 21-and-over beer garden during the convention, and provide entertainment on W. Georgia St in Indianapolis.

For Gen Con 50, taking place August 17-20, Sun King will brew a Belgian-Style Golden Ale, available in both cans and drafts at the convention as well as via bar, restaurant, and packaged liquor providers in the Indianapolis metro.

“While pondering Gen Con 50, thoughts of a Belgian Golden Ale came to mind,” said Dave Colt, Head Brewer/Co-Founder of Sun King Brewing. “A golden anniversary should be celebrated with a beer golden in color, with complex fruity esters and moderate spiciness, a first for Sun King Brewery to make in celebration of our partnership with Gen Con.”

Sun King Brewing has created official beers for five prior Gen Con events, including last year’s 20-Sided Rye.

Our partners at Sun King truly understand the Gen Con attendee,” said Scott Elliott, Vice President of Business Development at Gen Con. “A significant portion of last year’s 61,000 Gen Con attendees sampled the Sun King beer, and their feedback on its taste, branding, and packaging art was our best yet.”

“Gen Con is one of our favorite events of the year and over time, as our partnership has grown, so has the excitement and anticipation around the brewery!” said Clay Robinson, Co-Founder of Sun King Brewing. “We’ve got a lot of fun in store surrounding Gen Con 50 and are honored to be a part of the celebration.”

Badges for Gen Con 50 will go on-sale on January 29 at noon (Eastern) on gencon.com.

21After an incredibly successful convention in our new venue, AdeptiCon will return to the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center March 31st through April 3rd, 2016!

AdeptiCon 2015 saw several changes, the most obvious being the move to a new venue. The Renaissance Schaumburg, with all its additional space and amenities, proved to be the upgrade AdeptiCon needed. We are very excited to announce our return to this fantastic facility in 2016. AdeptiCon 2015 also saw the integration of a new registration system which we will continue to refine and polish going forward.

AdeptiCon 2015 attendance was at an all-time high, as the convention offered the widest and most diverse event list to date. Huge tournaments, the addition of board gaming events, a much larger Vendor Hall, a new area for the Crystal Brush painting competition, and an expanded Hobby Seminar classroom space all made for an exciting and busy convention.

AdeptiCon 2016 will continue to build on our recent successes by refining our existing schedule and adding new and exciting events. Work has already begun, so mark your calendar now!

A couple of additional dates to keep in mind:

  • Hotel Block: The hotel blocks will open on May 15th, 2015. The Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center Hotel is currently accepting hotel reservations at the special AdeptiCon rate. Please note that all individual reservations will be charged a non-refundable deposit of one (1) night room and tax at the time of booking with a minimum of a two (2) night stay.  Click here to reserve your room at that special AdeptiCon rate!
  • Event Submission: Begins on August 15th, 2015.
  • Convention Registration: Late October/Early November of 2015.

Now get painting…that new army and that Crystal Brush entry aren’t going to paint themselves! See you in 2016!

In the late Middle Ages, trade flourished in Europe. Economic groups like the Hanseatic League, the Welser and Fugger families, and merchants from Northern Italy established trading posts and factories in all of the important cities throughout Europe. These businesses provided the population with goods of all kinds, such as fur from the north, cloth from Flanders, wine from the south, and spices from India. The most important commodity of all was salt. In the Middle Ages salt was highly prized it was used to preserve food.

You are a powerful merchant! Start your trading posts in three cities. Recruit new merchants and send them to distant cities to establish trading posts and expand your interests. The more trading posts you have, the more commodities are at your disposal which you can sell profitably in foreign cities.

To ensure that your commodities arrive safely at their destination, you must open up trade routes and equip caravans. You win the game if you are the first to deliver all of your commodities to foreign cities.
