With the 1st major cookout holiday of the year right around the corner, I took some time to mix up some burgers.  Being the chef that I strive to be, I never really do just the simple — well I do, but what fun is cooking if you don’t make it personal?  So I made three burger recipes.  The first has been a family staple for years, garlic and onion.  The second is really an experiment that uses Asian flavors.  The third is my first attempt at a chipotle burger.  Read on for the recipes… Continue reading »

Privateer Press has announced delays for their games in August.  They are attributing the delays to a surge in their player population.

Here is what they have to say

Since the release of Mk II, both WARMACHINE and HORDES have seen an explosive amount of growth that has created an unprecedented demand for these award-winning miniatures games. In response, Privateer Press has been steadily increasing production staff and facilities. However, even with these measures in place, the tremendous popularity of the games has continued to outpace our ability to produce them.

With demand continuing to remain at record levels, Privateer Press has decided to delay August releases to give both our production facility and our distribution channels time to get closer to total back order fulfillment.

Privateer Press would like to thank everyone who has helped make Mk II such an amazing success. We remain committed to producing the best entertainment experiences for discerning audiences.

Be sure to watch Privateer Press for the latest news and information on upcoming releases for WARMACHINE and HORDES.

It would seem Privateer is doing well.   Maybe you will get to see some of these releases at Gen Con.

Shortly after announcing the price hikes scheduled for June GW makes this announcement on their facebook page.  Why did they have to make this announcement?   Because you, the gamers, the ones with the power, voiced your opinions and told them off.  In fact, so many gamers responded so quickly to this urgent matter that Games Workshop staff had to reply.  They basically said don’t tell us you are unhappy … we will delete your posts.   Well, so much for free speech.  In my opinion Games workshop is showing their true colors here.  They do not care about you.  they only care about their pocket book.

Games Workshop Update: New US and Canadian GW prices
Games Workshop has posted a list of their new US and Canadian prices. Below is a list of all the products that have changed price including the amount they have increased. A couple things to note, the average increase is ten percent, and the increase is unwarranted.  This price hike comes not much more than a month after GW shares information on record profits. The price list sent contains US and Canada prices.

What in the world are they thinking?  I do not believe the gaming community is going to put up with their bully tactics much longer.   There are other game companies out there that do not grossly overprice their miniatures and some even have better rules set.  I am not sure what typ of marketing this is, but I do know several of our local players are already angry with them about the prices of new models and the cancellation of metal codes.  As  direct result of this announcement one player burned his space marine army, and two others want me to sell theirs for them when I come back in June.  Watch eBay for that.   For a list of the price changes read on.

Games Workshop is releasing the Dark Eldar Venom, Scourge box set, and the Talos Pain/Cronos Parasite Engine the first week of June.   Being a Dark Eldar player myself I am almost excited.   Why, only almost excited ?  Three reasons, one I am not that awed by the models.  Two, as usual they are overpriced.  Three, I am unimpressed.  Yes, I know one and three are in conflict we will get to that in a minute.  Lets take a look at each item being released, Continue reading »

Well, I was lucky enough to be accepted to judge at Grand Prix Providence.  Judging a Grand Prix is always an exciting experience.  They offer a great education for judges of all levels.  They also allow you to interact with a judge and player community that is not the one you are used to.  Any way I can go on for  an hour or two on the uniqueness of judging a GP, but that is not what I want to do.

In preparing for a GP there are a few things I like to look at, and a few more I like to think about.   The most important things to me are food, shelter, and travel. The secondary thoughts,  are things like what do I want to accomplish, do I want to play a draft? Continue reading »

The US Post Office will never cease to amaze me.  We had a package returned to us today because the buyer had moved or couldn’t be found.  It was postmarked October 14th.  I wonder what in the world they were doing with it all that time?
