Internal unrest brews among the court of the Abyss. The warlike Crabs bring chaos against the wise mages of the Jellyfish while the merchant Shellfish wage trade wars against the insidious Squid politicians. Can you recruit the allies you need to master the lords of the Abyss? Venture to Abyss, where players must battle monsters, recruit allies, and sway the great lords of the deep. The right hand of ally cards will let you control the lords who will help you seize the kingdoms of the Abyss. Be careful of your foes, though, because treachery abounds in the lands under the sea!

Abyss is a game of development, combination and collection in which players try to take control of strategic locations in an underwater city. To achieve this, players must develop on three levels: first by collecting allies, then using them to recruit Lords of the Abyss, who will then grant access to different parts of the city. Players acquire cards through a draft of sorts, and the Lords of the Abyss acquired on those cards grant special powers to the cardholder but once you use the cards to acquire a location, that power is shut off, so players need to time their land grabs well in order to put themselves in the best position for when the game ends.

$99.95

Shadows of Brimstone: City of the Ancients is a fast-paced, fully cooperative, dungeon-crawl board game set in the Old West, with a heavy dose of unspeakable horror! Players create characters, taking on the role of a classic Western Hero Archetype, such as the Law Man, Gunslinger, or Saloon Girl. Forming an adventuring posse, the Heroes venture down into the dark mines, overrun with all manner of ancient demons and foul creatures from another world. With tactical gameplay, lots of dice, and a robust card-driven exploration system, no two games are ever the same as the heroes explore the mines finding new enemies to fight, new loot to collect, and new dangers to overcome. Players can even find portals to other worlds, stepping through to continue their adventures on the other side!

An exciting campaign system allows the players to visit local frontier towns between adventures, spending their hard-earned loot and building their characters from game to game! As players find fantastic gear and artifacts to equip their heroes, they also gain experience from their adventures. This experience is used to level up, guiding the hero’s path through an expansive, class-specific upgrade tree of new skills and abilities, allowing each player to develop their hero to fit their own play style.

In City of the Ancients, players will encounter portals to the otherworld on the Plains of Targa, finding an ancient frozen city whose living inhabitants are nowhere to be found. Instead, great mechanical keepers wander the city going about their duties – until interrupted by the arrival of the players’ characters!

So load up yer’ six shooter, throw on yer’ hat and poncho, and gather the posse as the darkness is coming, and all hell’s about to break loose…in the Shadows of Brimstone!

Can be used together with Shadows of Brimstone: Swamps of Death to raise the maximum players to 6.

Eclipse Phase is the post-apocalyptic game of transhuman conspiracy and horror. Technology allows the re-shaping of bodies and minds, but also creates opportunities for oppression and puts the capability for mass destruction in the hands of everyone. Other threats lurk in the devastated habitats of the Fall, dangers both familiar and alien.

In this harsh setting, the players participate in a cross-faction conspiracy called Firewall that seeks to protect transhumanity from threats both internal and external. Along the way, they may find themselves hunting for prized technology in a gutted habitat falling from orbit, risking the hellish landscapes of a ruined Earth, or following the trail of a terrorist through militarized stations and isolationist habitats. Players may even find themselves stepping through a Pandora Gate, a wormhole to distant stars and the alien secrets beyond….

This rulebook book requires the Eclipse Phase core rulebook (PS+21000).

decimatorStar Wars X-Wing: VT-49 Decimator

$39.95

To be granted command of a VT-49 Decimator is seen as a significant promotion for a middling officer of the Imperial Navy. A heavily armed transport, the VT-49 Decimator is one of the Empire’s most feared warships, often used to provide long-range reconnaissance or to deploy raiding parties past enemy forces.

The VT-49 Decimator Expansion Pack brings this intimidating Imperial gunboat to X-Wing as the game’s largest ship yet designed for Standard Play. Even at the game’s signature 1/270 scale, the expansion pack’s detailed miniature towers over its base and smaller starfighters.

In addition to its imposing, pre-painted miniature, the VT-49 Decimator Expansion Pack introduces four ship cards, three debris cloud tokens, a new mission, a maneuver dial, and all the tokens you need to fly your Decimator into the thick of combat. Finally, you’ll find thirteen upgrade cards, which introduce a variety of crew members like Mara Jade and Fleet Officer designed to help you fill out the Decimator’s three crew member slots.

$49.99

California Gold is an historic simulation of orange grove production in which you represent a co-op for helping orange ranchers receive support and the best prices for their crops.

Play hinges around collecting cards that represent orange ranches distinguished by city environs and grouped by counties. Buildings – such as packing houses and nurseries – create local support structures, while advertising and railroad contracts increase profits. The object of the game is to have the most ranches (cards) in your co-op by the end of the game. Players acquire cards through an action point allowance, which is limited by packing house distribution. Other buildings help with advertising, leverage, and expansion into other areas of control like Political Lobbying and Agricultural Amenities.

Myths and Legends 5 Thor

9781782000754-th2Thor Myths and Legends is a really good intro book who wants to learn about the mythology of Thor and other Nrose gods. If you’re only familiar with the Marvel version of Thor sit down before you read this books.

There are several tales about Thor in this book, many are even complete. Graeme takes a historical approach that references other books and documents that have studied these poems and legends in a far greater detail. But the information is far from dry, he breaks it down so anyone can rad the contents.

As you might imagine many of these stories developed Thor, but what little do we know. Thor was a red head, according to legend. These stories touch upon the Thor’s strength, Loki, How he won the hammer, his hatred for frost giants and more.

There’s even a section on the Marvel version of Thor. It was really cool to see that the myth has evolved into today’s world and still maintains much of it’s origin.

It is only 8- pages but it will keep you entertained for more than an evening.

Preview The Ultimate Adequate Commoner on Kickstarter Now

Featured, Pathfinder, RPG's  Comments Off on Preview The Ultimate Adequate Commoner on Kickstarter Now
Sep 252014

I just finished reading the meat of The Ultimate Adequate Commoner. Well, the preview copy that is.  I must say I’m a bit surprised, it has a lot of information in it that  supports everything you will need as a player to be ordinary – except one thing and we will get to that at the very end.

The Adequate Commoner starts out by asking you the question about the why you might want to play a commoner.  Which is the perfect place to start. Many players will just look at it say why and never think about an application of ordinary.  For most of us the goal is to play a hero right? Well don’t you know many of heroes are ordinary, or they were at the start of the story.

After defending the commoner as a class J.W. moves into what I would refer to as archetypes.  Sharing with you a few common themes in literature and gaming, like a peasant that enjoys melee, and my personal favorite the peasants that rebel or ninjas.  Not ninjas like Hollywood glamorizes, but the original ninjas.  The ones that learned to hide because they didn’t know how to fight and guerrilla warfare was their only method.  He also includes with each of these descriptions concepts on for a GM to consider when  balancing the class for the player.  In other words ne is encouraging the GM to help polish the otherwise scuffed commoner.  Which is something I think a good GM does anyway.

The class in and of itself  is well developed and appears to be balanced in structure – ordinary remember. The class only gets 2 weapon inefficiencies, but they get a job. Something I argue with friends about all the time.  Adventurers need to get paid too!

There is a lot of information in the book about gear, magic, alchemy and he even covers the aspect of an all commoner party, but if I tell you everything you won’t buy it. So what was that one thing?

This book will give an excellent frame to build an ordinary character. The kind that gets off the school bus starts to walk down the driveway and sees an orc horde charging the house.  What does that common person do?  Run, freeze in fright, or charge to help their family? I know my answer.  That one thing is the personality of the character.

This book will bring you to that point where an ordinary person is prepared to face that defining moment.  A moment that shapes the personality of a character.  This book will help players go beyond playing a mere role and step forward into playing a character.

SamuraiSamurai Spirit

$30.00

Fight with courage, smartly assist your teammates, defend the poor villagers, turn into a savage beast, and wreak havoc on the enemy lines – all of this is up to you! Ultimately it would be your honor to choose to die in a ultimate sacrifice in order to save the village. All of this is what makes the true samurai spirit!

You and your fellow samurai companions are the only standing obstacle between one frightened village and a full horde of blood-thirsty villains. The fight seems unfair as the seven of you might not seem to measure up to the dozens of enemies who want to slice you to pieces but this comparison doesn’t take into account your strong combat skills and an efficient team spirit that binds your samurai squad enough to face the threat. Above all else, when everything seems desperate and lost, your enemies will discover that inside each of you lies a true beast, a warrior spirit ready to unleash its full power!
