Can you escape the inferno?

It’s the year of the Consulship of Augustus and Vespasianus. The rich, beautiful Roman city of Pompeii sits at the foot of majestic Mount Vesuvius.  Renowned for exotic, easy, and ample luxury, the wealthy town attracts the best of Rome’s proud citizens.

But a terrible secret lies deep beneath the slopes of the mighty mountain. A primeval secret is about to unleash unspeakable horrors on this fateful afternoon. The mountain, so very long asleep, is finally reawakening…

Come to beautiful Pompeii! Use your cards to attract your Roman friends and relatives to visit select sites. But beware! The dreaded Vesuvius card means the mountain is awake, spewing fiery lava onto the unsuspecting city.

Now you must struggle to get your compatriots out of the doomed town before they are engulfed. Rushing to avoid lava flows, your people must flee before Vesuvius explodes and ash seals their fate. Lead the most survivors to safety and you win !

The Duke is the newest “abstract” game I have seen.  It has a chess like feel to it – that is if chess can be a hyper squirrel doing back flips. Check  it out as Matt shares his box with you.

In a few days we hope to have some sample games up for you or a tutorial.  Hope you have had fun.

The Walking Dead Board Game 2

$ 40.00 SRP

In this co-operative game, players take on the roles of Rick, Glenn, Daryl, Michonne, and other characters. The Survivors are on the hunt for Walkers and must defend 4 key Locations in order to stay alive: The Farm, The Prison, The Town, and The Highway. Using oversized Location tiles, the map board is built at random each game, providing for great replayability. At each Location there is a Resource deck of 25 cards: Equipment, Allies, Food, or Ammunition. These decks are also placed at random locations, further adding to the replayability. A 48-card Event deck drives the action and triggers Walkers and other calamities to show up at the various Locations. Players draw Event cards each turn and have to figure out how to minimize the effects of their Events over the course of their turn. Dice are used to resolve combat and to determine the outcome of some Event cards.

dukeThe Duke

$34.95 SRP

The Dukeis a dynamic, tile-based strategy game with an old-world, feudal theme, high-quality wooden playing pieces, and an innovative game mechanism in its double-sided tiles. Each side represents a different posture – often considered to be defensive or offensive – and demonstrates exactly what the piece can do within the turn. At the end of a move (or after the use of a special ability), the tile is flipped to its other side, displaying a new offensive or defensive posture.

Each posture conveys different options for maneuver and attack. The full circle is a standard Move, the hollow circle the Jump, the arrow provides for the Slide, the star a special Strike ability and so on. Each turn a player may select any tile to maneuver, attempting to defend his own troops while positioning himself to capture his opponent’s tiles. If you end your movement in a square occupied by an opponent’s tile, you capture that tile. Capture your opponent’s Duke to win!

Players start the game by placing their Duke in one of the two middle squares on their side of the game board. Two Footman are then placed next to the Duke. Each turn a player may choose to either move a single tile, or randomly draw a new tile from the bag. With twelve different Troop Tiles, all double-sided, and sixteen total pieces for each player, the variety of game play is limitless.

Amber

Release Date: Coming Soon

$ 26.60

In Amber, players take the role of the barons, and their goal is to build trade routes that connect their castles to the villages where the amber is collected, and to the other barons’ castles where it is traded. To this end, players build roads through the wilderness – placing one tile each turn in the shared playing area – which will allow their buyers to reach the sources of the amber. Since all buyers can use the roads, however, it’s important to have suitable connections with the road networks built by others. The baron whose castle is connected with the greatest number of villages and castles will become the richest and most respected Lord of the new land.

This looks like a nice easy game to sit down and play with the kids thanks, Rebel Publishing for giving me more family time.
