Last year I had the chance to go to Gen Con because of all of you who believe I’m doing the community a service.  If you want to look back to Gen Con 2014 You can visit the Gen Con 2o14 coverage page.

Here is my video on the project.

This year some of my sponsors have convinced me to think about the whole year  as opposed to just Gen Con.

I have a lot of things planned for us and he promo pledge level is pretty sweet.  Well at least I think so who doesn’t want promos for Mage Wars, a set of Disc Duelers cards, Zpocalypse Cards, trial subscription to Adventure a Week and another trial to Syrinscape

Some of the more exciting ideas are themed weeks, with daily content on some of your favorite games.  I’m also looking froward to improving video content and attending more conventions to bring you reports.

Please check out the project and follow me on Facebook, and Twitter.

Frome Game Salute

Londonderry, NH – 2/1/2015: Andrew Hunzicker designed Capture – A Medieval Wargame in the 1980s, when he was in his early 20s. The story of the game is quite an extraordinary one, as the now 50 year old first time designer details in a video on the game’s Kickstarter page.

Capture isn’t a “War game” it’s a family strategy board game, with a simple but timeless game play that feels like a classic game, that we just never got to play! Capture grew from Andrew’s desire to make a next generation strategy board game in the 1980s, and the elegant replayable design certainly seems to have stood the test of time; though it has never been published (after some very close calls!)

The kickstarter for the game is launching February 3rd at 9am EST and will run for 32 days. Below is a link to the page, which has interviews with the designer and a lot more information.

Heavy Gear – War for Terra Nova Plastic Miniatures Kickstarter – Updated

We are now in the final 2 days of the Heavy Gear Blitz – War for Terra Nova Kickstarter, which ends this Saturday afternoon, November 22nd at 2:04 PM EST.

We want to thank all our Backers, old and new, for their support. We started the project with a modest goal of $27,000 CAD to pay for the very expensive molds needed to make a Basic Starter Set of 16 plastic miniatures. Now 27 days into the project we have unlocked 14 main stretch goals and numerous mini-stretch goals and are at over $112,000 CAD Pledged.

We now have an amazing Backer Reward Core Starter Set which includes 47 plastic miniatures, color quick start rulebook, backer patch, plus a lot of free downloads. The true retail value of all the individual miniatures included in the Core Starter Set is over $300. You get it all for a Pledge of $115 CAD (about $100 USD) plus shipping of $15 for US and Canadian Backers and actual shipping cost for International Backers. That`s a cost of less than $2.50 per miniature compared to our pewter miniatures cost of $8 or more each.

War for Terra Nova – Starter Set
Kickstarter is Now Live

The War for Terra Nova – Starter Set – Kickstarter is to fund molds for plastic miniatures. These high quality multi-part plastic miniatures for our tabletop wargame will form the new two player Basic Starter Set of 16 miniatures – with 4 different models at the start.

We don’t want to stop there, a Core Starter Set is also available, with stretch goals that will unlock new models and add more plastic miniatures to the Core Starter Set. Our desired goal is a Core Starter Set of 46 miniatures and color quick start rulebook, which will be accomplished by reaching the 13th stretch goal of $105K CAD. This would allow for a variety of eighteen different models from 4 factions in a Core Starter Set for two players, with a multiplayer option of up to four players.

Countdown to to Gen Con 8 Days Out; A look at Golem Arcana

Board Games, Featured, Gen Con 2014, Hairbrained Schemes, Kickstarter  Comments Off on Countdown to to Gen Con 8 Days Out; A look at Golem Arcana
Aug 042014

Only 8 days left, are you excited yet? Well yesterday we discussed a Dropzone Commander. A game that when it came on the scene it hit the ground running and hasn’t stopped since. Today I’d like to talk about Golem Arcana from Hairbrained Schemes. Hairbrained Schemes is a small group of passionate game developers lead by Jordan Weisman, complete list here.

Duranni colossus

Golem Arcan is a new game that could potentially hold some keys to the future of gaming. Let’s start with the basics. Golem Arcana is a miniatures board game that is striving to incorporate the use of smart devices. I did get a look at the miniatures at Origins and the are excellent. Beautifully sculpted with dynamic poses and painted with vibrant colors, what you would expect from an average to an above average hobby painter. While the miniatures are an important part of the game I don’t believe they are the focus.
