Catalyst Game Labs will be at Gen Con 2014 in force! We’ve got a slew of great gaming and games to check out at booths 417, 413, 509, 617.

THE SHADOWRUN RPG EXPERIENCE

Once more the fantastic Shadowrun RPG Experience returns!

Dive into gaming in the Sixth World like never before as players step into the infamous Dante’s Inferno club in Seattle’s Sprawl. An 8-foot tall, 30-foot long banner creates an immersive 11 foot diameter room were you can learn Shadowrun, Fifth Edition and run the mean streets in the shadows of the megacorps.

Runs must be made by appointment only with our exclusive Dante’s Inferno concierge.

SHADOWRUN: CROSSFIRE

“I know I sound like I’m talking about a roleplaying game, and it’s not. But it lends itself well to telling a good story.” – Zee Garcia, The Dice Tower

If you’ve not played Crossfire, stop on by to give it a try!

Shadowrun: Crossfire is a deck-building game crossing cyperpunk with fantasy and plunging players into a world dominated by ruthless megacorporations; Crossfire gives players the chance to dive into the world’s shadows to see if they can survive. They’ll have weapons, spells, contacts, and gear to help them out, and they’re going to need those resources. If they play their cards right, they’ll do more than survive—they’ll become legends.

SHADOWRUN: CROSSFIRE HARLEQUIN PARTY II

You think you know the Shadows? You believe you’ve paid the right price to be a Shadowrunner? Think again chummer! Shadowrun: Crossfire will take you down a new path of mysteries and danger. Harlequin has some big plans for the small group of runners who are willing to risk their very souls to beat the objectives. Invitations to Harlequin’s little soiree are hard to come by.

Come on down to the Indianapolis Convention Center, Rooms 120-122 on Saturday, 1 August at 2200 if you dare to take part in the Shadowrun: Crossfire release event. Crossfire designers Rob Heinsoo, Rob Watkins, and Jay Schneider will be running this event!

BATTLETECH NOVELS

BattleTech fiction has always been its greatest strength, with well over a hundred novels publishing across twenty years. Nothing brings the epic stories, heroic characters and desperate battlefield action to life better than novels. It’s been long years since new print novels saw publication for this seminal universe. Now, a new era is opening for BattleTech as the first, all new, full-length novel reaches print at Gen Con. Stop on by and grab a copy of Embers of Wars and slide back into the heavy metal action of the 31st century!

Oh, and we just might have a sample miniature to show off what we’re planning for the future!

THE DUKEDOM

“…this is one of the best abstract strategy games I have ever played.” -Tom Vasel, The Dice Tower

We’ve brought it back again! Come play a larger-than-life version of The Duke with 18 inch tiles on a 10 foot x 10 foot board! Or sit down at one of several The Duke tables and give this fantastic tile-laying game a full try.

The game is also back in stock after a 6 month hiatus…grab your copy while you’re there!

OTHER NEW GAMES

We’ve got some fantastic new games coming your way.

VALIANT UNIVERSE RPG
“Basically, this game hits all the right spots it needed to. It encourages you to play all the main characters from the comic books in the Valiant Universe, and gives you no holds barred access to the Valiant universe.” Aaron Richardson (All Us Geeks, Guest Review)

The Valiant Universe RPG was released last year, with its companion Digital Initiative up for some awards!. Stop on by and play a game!

ENCOUNTERS: BRAVEST WARRIORS

We pre-released Encounters: Bravest Warriors last year, but the full release is now available. And each deck now includes 1 unique CatBug die! Additionally, the fantastic folks at WeLoveFine have given us several CatBug Pounce Vinyl Figures to give away! Just stop by the booth, play the wonderfully fun and fast Encounters: Bravest Warriors or purchase a deck, and you’ll be entered into a drawing each evening at 5:30 PM to win a free one! (You must be present to win and no tickets carry over from one day to the next.)

JARL: THE VIKINGS TILE-LAYING GAME

In the long winters between raiding seasons, warriors keep their intellect sharp through games of wits and chance. Ragnar, Rollo, Floki and even the Earl challenge each other to this game of stone placement filled with tactics and subtle maneuvering for victory.

The first of our games based upon History Channel’s hit TV show, Vikings, will be available. Powered by The Duke, the Jarl: The Vikings Tile-laying Game brings all the brilliant game play in The Duke to a new stand-alone game with all new tiles and a few new movement icons.

WRATH OF DRAGONS

Take on the mantle of a most powerful dragon. Awaken each century, terrifying and rapacious. Lay waste to settlements and cities. Burn crops… Consume flocks… Hoard treasure…

And pass into legend as the greatest dragon of any age!

We’ve got an early release for our new, unique ‘Resource Destruction’ game in Wrath of Dragons. Come play a dragon as it pillages and plunders across the landscape, stealing gold, livestock, nobles and crushing human’s that dare raise settlements in your lands. As part of Con survival week I’ve decided to share with you one of my favorite recipes for an energy/protein bar.  This Chocolate Cherry bare is simple to make and is far healthy for you than thos things you would by at your gas station.

It has a balance of protein, carbs, and fat that is just about right for me when I’m on the move or when I go longer between meals than I should.

I hope to see you at Gen Con, and I have to thank all of my kickstarter backers for inspiring me to make this happen it was a lot of fun.

WARPO RETURNS TO GEN CON WITH LEGENDS OF CTHULHU

Slew of Activities includes All-Star Cthulhu Summit with Live Séance for the Ghost of H.P. Lovecraft, Cthulhu Costumed Character, Prizes and More!

CHICAGO, IL (July 22, 2015): Last year, Team Warpo attended Gen Con having just completed their successful Kickstarter to create the retro action figure line, Legends of Cthulhu, which has now become truly legendary. This year, Warpo returns to Gen Con as a proud recipient of Gen Con’s Marketing Fellowship, with a booth filled with Cthulhu activities and the critically acclaimed Legends of Cthulhu action figures, and as host of the epic Cthulhu All-Stars Summit, which will culminate in a live séance for the ghost of H.P. Lovecraft.

Warpo, along with co-sponsor Paizo, has assembled some of the industry’s leading Cth-experts to host the first Cthulhu All-Stars Summit, taking place Saturday at Noon in Paizo seminar room #233. Join moderators Paizo creative director James Jacobs and Warpo president Bryan Katzel, along with Sandy Petersen, Kenneth Hite, and occult expert Brandon Hodge, as they discuss the impact of H.P. Lovecraft’s stories and characters on popular culture and their work. The panel will hold some fantastic surprises, prizes, and will culminate with a live séance conducted by Brandon Hodge to entice Lovecraft himself to join the festivities.

Gen Con attendees will want to visit the Warpo booth (#2939 in the Exhibit Hall), where they will be greeted by the mighty Cthulhu himself, get their picture taken in front of the giant photo wall than puts them inside their own action figure packaging, and collect all four free daily Legends of Cthulhu buttons. Gen Con fans will also get their first look at the new 12” Cthulhu Standard Edition, 12” Cthulhu Glow in the Dark Edition, and the Legends of Cthulhu Collector Club Kit, all of which will be on display in the Warpo booth, and the full line of Legends of Cthulhu 3.75” action figures and select Kickstarter premiums, such as the LoC coloring book and posters, will be available for purchase.

Warpo’s costumed Cthulhu will be making his way around Gen Con, as well as hanging out in the Warpo booth, providing an opportunity for fans to take and post a pic to social media, with the hashtag #CthulhuIsComing. One lucky winner will be chosen from the social media feeds each day to win one of the Signature Series Legends of Cthulhu figures, and in the final drawing on Saturday, a chance to win the one-of-a-kind 12” Cthulhu Glow in the Dark Edition prototype. Winner must be present at the Warpo booth at the time of the drawing.

Gen Con, North America’s largest hobby gaming convention, takes place in Indianapolis, IN July 30 – August 2, 1015.

Legends of Cthulhu retro action figures are available at BigBadToyStore, Think Geek, comic book stores, and in toy and hobby shops nationwide.

Through Gamer Goggles Season 4 Kickstarter Funded!

Have you heard the news? Our Season 4 Kickstarter has reached its funding goal and is in its final days. It has been a rough journey though; more on that in a moment. I just want to thank all of you who have pledged and shared this on different social media groups.  Without you this wouldn’t have happened.  Now that it’s almost over I want to really make it fun, but first I’m asking that you read the story and then I’ll share what is in store for the rest of the journey.

When the project first started I was all fired up to do all of the social media and post updates that needed to be done. Then it hit.  I lost my hard drive and before I knew it a week had gone by, without any work on my Kickstarter being done.  In that time my wife managed to fix it up for me.  But the time I had to work was short lived, I was summoned for jury duty.  Which is nothing like you see on television, but it is time consuming.   I hoped and prayed that I wouldn’t be selected, but I was. It caused me to move my work schedule around a bit and I lost three days of good social media and posting to the Kickstarter project.

On my last day of jury duty I weighed the potential of canceling the Kickstarter.  I went back and forth measuring the pros and cons of what the better choice would be. This carried on late into the night, until I decided I’d cancel it in the morning and relaunch in a week or two.  Tired, I went to bed. I didn’t sleep well.

In the morning I woke to a nearly funded campaign. Instilled with excitement, I rushed to Hootesuite and hit my social media network calling out to all gamers.  It wasn’t long before Marc Tassin finished funding the project. (A quick side note, Marc is the current mastermind behind the Gen Con Writer’s Symposium and the Pathfinder setting World of Aetaltis: The Temple of Modren.)

I’ve spent the last 24 hours totally distracted from my “real” life by the Kickstarter.  I have been both distraught and ecstatic at the same time. Distraught because I haven’t really accomplished all of what I set out to do and I kind of feel like I failed.  I know the situations that arose weren’t really my fault, but I still feel responsible. Not to mention that I haven’t really had fun with it, which is always a part of  my plan. Ecstatic because, well, we’re funded and I’m about to have some fun.

I mentioned I was constantly distracted by this Kickstarter.  Well, the result of my distraction is that I’m going to shake it up a bit.  I’m reworking the stretch goals (actually changed some yesterday) and how they are obtained.

First I’m going to ask you for your help and in return I’ll add new unique stretch goals.  What is cool about this is that you get to be a part of the idea without even pledging.  Here is what you can do to participate.

  1. Visit the Kickstarter.
  2. Click Share – a pop up box will open.
  3. Find the Facebook icon and click it.

At 150 shares I will unlock a road to Gen Con 2015 living article.  Well a page really that will document not only my endeavors of this journey, but stories that exhibitors, publishers and game designers who are planning to attend the show are ready to share.  The first of these will be my thoughts about Gen Con and this whole Religious Freedom Bill.

I will unlock another “share” stretch goal every time the number doubles (300, 600, 1200).  I really don’t know what they will be yet, but they will be blog page related or an improvement to the functionality of the blog.

Next up we will be adding supporter related stretch goals.  You don’t have to pledge a lot to be involved, heck a dollar gives you a “number”.  These stretch goals will be 25 and 45 for now, I’ll add more if needed.  The first will open up the next stretch goal waiting to be unlocked.  Will you be number 25 or 45? I hope so!

There are only four days left, but I know we can blow some of these stretch goals out of the water, especially with these new and unique stretch goals.

Again I’d like to thank all of you for being a part of this community.

Matt

Last year I had the chance to go to Gen Con because of all of you who believe I’m doing the community a service.  If you want to look back to Gen Con 2014 You can visit the Gen Con 2o14 coverage page.

Here is my video on the project.

This year some of my sponsors have convinced me to think about the whole year  as opposed to just Gen Con.

I have a lot of things planned for us and he promo pledge level is pretty sweet.  Well at least I think so who doesn’t want promos for Mage Wars, a set of Disc Duelers cards, Zpocalypse Cards, trial subscription to Adventure a Week and another trial to Syrinscape

Some of the more exciting ideas are themed weeks, with daily content on some of your favorite games.  I’m also looking froward to improving video content and attending more conventions to bring you reports.

Please check out the project and follow me on Facebook, and Twitter.
