Cthulhu by Gaslight

$ 28.95 SRP

In 1986, avid Sherlockian Bill Barton produced the award-winning first edition of Cthulhu by Gaslight. A second edition, with only slight changes, appeared two years later. Since then a handful of Call of Cthulhu books set in the Victorian era have appeared, and articles and scenarios still crop up from time to time. But it’s been over 20 years (!) since the Gaslight book itself was reprinted or updated. This new edition of Cthulhu by Gaslight has been thoroughly revamped, expanding the book by nearly 50% and adding new material roughly equivalent to the original book’s length. With this book and a copy of the Call of Cthulhu core rulebook, a prospective Keeper can run a campaign set in Victorian England. This edition provides a strong background in both the Victorian world and the activities of the Cthulhu Mythos within it. So grab your coat, hat, and walking stick, and have the doctor bring his bag and revolver. It’s time to step into a world of Victorian occult adventure — the world of Cthulhu by Gaslight!

Not really a lot to report about this game night.   We are still breaking in our books on Warmachine, Heavy  Gear, and Alkemy.

What did we learn?

We learned that Alkemy needs more combat cards.

That Warmachine MKII is far better than the original rules.

That heavy Gear has a small learning curve.

As we learn these games better these will get better..

Until then check back to see what we have in store for you.   I am off to Baltimore for the GP see you Monday.

In this Off the Palette Matt goes back to work on the celestial Fulcrum Battle Engine.  He specifically focuses on the Priest.

All that is left now is the large orb.  I am not sure how I am going to tackle that yet – any suggestions.

For the official Day 2 coverage to GP Lincoln go here.  To read about the winner and the top 8 go here.

Grand Prix Lincoln was the first Modern event I have judged.  It was an interesting experience.  Here is my summation.

The players were an interesting mix of professional, competitive, and casual, which made for a fun event.  It didn’t make the rules questions ludicrous, but it did keep them coming at a nice pace.  I am sure that modern helped with that scenario.   The field is loaded with deck archetypes which just adds to the fun as a judge.  I believe that Modern is hear to stay.

Some of the interesting and fum rulings that happened at the event.

  • A player attempted to appeal a slow play warning during the posting of the pairings for the following round.
  • electrolyze with making an illegal target occured a few times.
  • Most of the the time though it was simple stuff like sorting out whether or it was legal for Mutavault ( or some other man land) to activate.
  • They were not a lot of corner cases.

Both Dan Scott, and Ron Spencer were there.   They were both a lot of fun – thanks for coming.  Ron has an interesting background, and we hope to interview him very soon.

Top 8 Advance to Round 4 of RPG Superstar

Finalists to Design Original Encounters by End of Week

February 21, 2012 (REDMOND, Wash.) – Eight amateur game designers have advanced to Round 4 of Paizo Publishing’s RPG Superstar, the largest open-call tabletop roleplaying design contest in history. Celebrity judges Sean K Reynolds from Paizo, Necromancer Games president Clark Peterson, Goblinworks CEO Ryan Dancey, and RPG Superstar 2009 winner Neil Spicer critiqued the Pathfinder campaign-setting-specific creatures from Round 3 before public vote determined the 8 semifinalists.

I’m really impressed with the results so far,” said Sean K Reynolds. “The monster round had many excellent submissions, and several of them are practically ready for publication. Each round we see the voters selecting the most talented competitors for the next challenge, and the best designers step up and meet that challenge.”
