Mistborn is an RPG set in the fantasy steampunk setting created by Brandon Sanderson. Before getting too in depth with the review I must give Brandon two thumbs up on his involvement in the process of creating the game. He not only authors the introduction story, he makes comments throughout the book.

The book itself is large, 500 pages. It is really three books in one. It is well organized and follows a sensible direction for teaching you how to play the game. I did find myself wishing there was more art. The book opens with a short story. The short story does an excellent job of immersing you into this game world. Sharing with you some of the basic concepts, like how this world is different, and allomancy. Allomancy is “metal magic” or one’s ability to weave, control or manipulate the powers and effects a metal obtains.

The world of Mistborn is a world trapped in an industrial revolution. The government is a fascist one that basically makes you conform or die. A few people (your character maybe) take on roles of thieves and bandits. By skirting the law they are easily seen as rebels, and heroes.

Monte Cook leaving Wizards of the Coast

So Monte Cook Had this to say the other day

“Last week I decided that I would leave my contract position with Wizards of the Coast. I am no longer working on Dungeons & Dragons, although I may provide occasional consultation in the future. My decision is one based on differences of opinion with the company. ”

You can read the full article at Chapel Perilous and I suggest you do.

There is no drama bout the decision or anything like that.  he does say he has something in the works.  It should be interesting.

So what does this mean for Dungeons and Dragons?

Is something we should be concerned about as a consumer?  While it is a little alarming that he is leaving, I am not sure it should be  major concern of ours.  He doesn’t say there is a problem with the system.  In fact, he says he will miss working with the staff.

I have a lot of mixed emotions about 5 th ed.  I think the idea of getting all D&D players under the same rules set should be an ideal not a goal.

I wish I knew more about 5th ed.

Do you like webcomics?  We at Through Gamer Goggles sure do, especially when those webcomics are based on Role-Playing Games!  And that is why we reached out to J.E. & E. Flint, the creators of The Chronicles of Loth.

I first met J.E. through the website “Explorers Unlimited,” a play-by-post site dedicated to Rifts and other Palladium Books games.  So what goes into the creation of a weekly webcomic?  “Mostly spite,” they say.  Listen in and find out more.

A big THANK YOU to the Flint brothers, for taking the time to sit down with us.  You can find The Chronicles of Loth by clicking here:  http://lothonline.com/ (the only thing you have to loose is a lot of time).
