Well it’s my tips and tricks for returning home safe from your journey without the dreaded con crud that slowly gnaws at your soul once you’ve returned. No seriously, it is about how to survive without too many health issues.

Over the next week, I’ll be sharing with you all kinds of tips that I have learned over the years through one experience or the other. I will be pulling on memories from just about everything I’ve ever done – marksmanship, cross country, MMA, conventions, and judging several Magic events that lasted whole weekends. All of these will come into play as we discuss everything from the most basic safety tips to eating right and getting a good night’s rest before driving home. Oh and I nearly forgot, I’ll be sharing some recipes too!

Countdown to Gen Con T-9 and Counting City of Gears from DTE

In City of Gears players are competing to see who will control the CITY OF GEARS!

cogEach turn, you will roll a number of Production Dice. Then, you will move your Workers and perform a variety of actions (such as drawing and placing Gears to reactivate areas of the city, Sabotaging opponents, and activating unique Steam powers), as determined by the Production Dice results. Finally, you will check to see if you’ve triggered the endgame. If not, play passes to the next player.

Once the entire city has been connected by any player, or the Gears are all drawn, the game ends and Victory Points are calculated based on tile ownership and other factors. The player with the highest VP wins!

Why am I looking forward to this game?  In 2012 Chris Leder won the Steampunk game design challenge.   Besides the fact that it’s a winner, it features a lot of great game mechanics like exploration, area control, worker placement, and strategy.  Did I mention that you use tile placement to design the board?  Beyond that that I really don’t know that  much about the game, but it’s clearly enough to intrigue me.

Swing by Arcane Wonders Booth (741) and take a look at the game.

O.K. I’m so super excited about this.  HALO has been a part of this family since my children were still in diapers, it’s actually hard to believe it’s been so long.   That isn’t the only reason why I’m looking into this game.  It’s being made by Spartan Games who has a licensing agreement with Microsoft to make the game.  Spartan Games makes great models and all of their games have been excellent , in my opinion.

Spartan Games will be at Booth 2733 and their product will be available through The War Store at booth number 1831.

Countdown to Gen Con T-11 and Counting Nevermore From Smirk and Dagger

We know well the story of Poe’s Raven. But what came before?

Is it bird – or something more, forced to walk the earth in darkness evermore? You may yet learn the answer first hand. For in Nevermore, those who fall become transformed, turned to ravens, unable to win, as they struggle to regain their human form – yet able to bring doom to others. Will you rise to power or simply be Nevermore?

Nevermore is a casual-style, card-drafting game in which you quickly build your hand each round, collecting cards you want and poisoning your opponent’s hand by passing along cards you think they can’t use. Whoever holds the most of a given suit, gains the power of that suit to attack, heal, acquire Light or Shadow magicks and score victory points.

The Amega Weapon Review – Countdown to Gen Con T-12

Designed by Scott Gower

In The Amega Weapon, players race to build the ultimate weapon. This is done by flying through space and collecting parts from various space stations. There are several hazards in the game like navigating asteroid fields, novae tiles, your opponents, and the dreaded Black Star.

You might find this appealing if you like semi-cooperative games, space themes, and if you don’t mind sitting around the table with friends anywhere from thirty minutes to four hours. Since the game’s release at Gen Con 2014, the designer has added a set of tournament rules based off the feedback of people who have played the game.

I was introduced to The Amega Weapon at Gen Con last year and I had fun playing the game. Since then I have played it about fourteen times. I have discovered that it can be repetitive, it’s always fun, and Scott truly cares about this game. We’ll cover all of those in more detail as we move through this review.
