Ebla Restored

Knowledge stolen from the ruins of an ancient city now steers the fate of the world. The third Asylum Pack in the Revelations cycle for Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game, Ebla Restored adds to the cycle’s focus on the power and dangers of eldritch knowledge. Its new cards promote exciting new synergies between dark Tomes and the daring Relic Hunters who seek them. Meanwhile, players gain unprecedented control over their decks and discard piles, finding new ways to work with lost knowledge. Will the forgotten secrets of ancient Ebla provide you the answers you need to stymie your foes? Will humanity tremble before the terrifying might of the Ancient Ones restored to their former glory, or will heroic investigators and scientists thwart them and their zealous cultists to maintain sanity, at least for another day?

Grand Prix Baltimore

Gaming News, Magic The Gathering  Comments Off on Grand Prix Baltimore

I have finally recovered from Grand Prix Baltimore and I am ready to give you my report.

Here is the official coverage from WotC

There were about 1550 players in the main event.

My favorite question from a player during the event was ” Judge, my opponent played Praetor’s Grasp.  Who’s graveyard does it go in?”  It is nice to know I am not the only one who gets ahead of himself, or says what he hears instead of saying what I hear.   What the player wanted to say is “My opponent exiled a card from my library with Praetor’s Grasp and then played it.  Who’s graveyard does it go in?”   there is only one answer, the owners graveyard.

The toughest question I came across involved having two Heartless summonings in play (controlled by the same player) who then plays Solemn Simulacrum.

Solemn enters the battlefield and puts the search trigger on the stack.

State based effects check making Solemns p/t  0/0.

Solemn is put in the graveyard.

Solemns draw trigger is added to the stack.

In what order do the triggers resolve?

Other highlights of the event were the artists.   I did manage tou have one sit down meal.  I can’t remember the name of the restaurant.  I doubt I will forget the salmon any time soon.  It was pretty good food.   I was feeling a little under the weather and we were run pretty ragged at this event because the demand on judges to answer questions was higher than normal.  At least I think so.  That might mean that Planeswalker points are bringing more players out to the larger events.  If that is true it is a good thing.

Sorry this is short, but I don’t want to bore you with every ruling we had to make.  Look at the bright side it is an easy read.

Wherein we continue to make “friends,” get healed, shakedown a corrupt cop, flash some dwarven-gang signs, become legends (in our own minds), and finally arrive at our destination – the Original/Old Thieves’ Guild!  No doubt the party has learned a lesson and will behave in a more rational, civilized, and polite manner.  (And if you believe that one, I own this sweet bridge in Brooklyn that I’m looking to sell real cheap.)

SV Session 1.5

Oooh, a cliffhanger ending.  Bonsai and Najaris are trading hits and insults while Will and Squirmy keep the guards entertained.  How will it end?  Tune in next time and find out.

And in case you missed it, here’s my favorite line from this episode:

SQUIRM: I do believe I will strut in as ten chickens.

                WILL: Why ten?

SQUIRMY: Ten seems like the appropriate number of chickens to make up a human body.

(Heeheeehaaahahaaa. O Mike, you so crazy!)

Paizo Adds Adam Daigle to Game Staff

Popular freelance designer to become Pathfinder Adventure Path Developer

February 27, 2012 (REDMOND, Wash.) – Paizo Publishing announces the addition of popular freelancer Adam Daigle to its in-house game design and development staff, effective March 15. Daigle will work with Pathfinder Creative Director James Jacobs and Developer Rob McCreary on Paizo’s popular monthly Pathfinder Adventure Path campaign supplements, as well as other projects.

As a freelancer, I’ve loved working with this crew in helping to build the world of Golarion and Pathfinder Roleplaying game, but that pesky day job kept getting in the way of giving more,” said Daigle. “I’m thrilled to be able to accept this position to give my full attention to this fantastic game and its community. This personal life transition was partially facilitated by the sage words of Hunter S. Thompson, ‘When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.’”

I’ve worked with Adam for years already—he’s been a contributor to numerous Paizo products as a freelancer, from smaller works like Pathfinder Bestiary monsters to larger projects like Lost Kingdoms or big Adventure Path articles,” said Paizo Creative Director James Jacobs. “The imagination, skill, and just plain-old professionalism Adam brings to each of his assignments would in and of itself have ensured him a constant role in Pathfinder products to come, but now that he’s joining Paizo as a full-time developer, you’ll see his handiwork in every product we produce—particularly in the Adventure Paths, where his assistance and input will be most welcome indeed!”

The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game is a fully supported tabletop RPG, with regularly released adventure modules, sourcebooks on the fantastic world of Golarion, and complete campaigns in the form of Pathfinder Adventure Paths like Skull & Shackles and The Rise of the Runelords. The Pathfinder RPG is also compatible with the 3.5 edition of the world’s oldest roleplaying game.

For more information about Pathfinder, please visit paizo.com/pathfinder.

I think this is very exciting.  Adam has been doing work as a freelancer for sometime.   I haven’t seen all of it, but I have like everything I have seen.  Here is a link to his past work.

Cthulhu by Gaslight

$ 28.95 SRP

In 1986, avid Sherlockian Bill Barton produced the award-winning first edition of Cthulhu by Gaslight. A second edition, with only slight changes, appeared two years later. Since then a handful of Call of Cthulhu books set in the Victorian era have appeared, and articles and scenarios still crop up from time to time. But it’s been over 20 years (!) since the Gaslight book itself was reprinted or updated. This new edition of Cthulhu by Gaslight has been thoroughly revamped, expanding the book by nearly 50% and adding new material roughly equivalent to the original book’s length. With this book and a copy of the Call of Cthulhu core rulebook, a prospective Keeper can run a campaign set in Victorian England. This edition provides a strong background in both the Victorian world and the activities of the Cthulhu Mythos within it. So grab your coat, hat, and walking stick, and have the doctor bring his bag and revolver. It’s time to step into a world of Victorian occult adventure — the world of Cthulhu by Gaslight!
