Gen Con Announces Sustainability Initiatives for 2018 Convention

Event to Support “It’s My City” Campaign with New Efforts

FOR RELEASE – April 18, 2018

INDIANAPOLIS (April 18, 2018) Gen Con, the largest and longest-running gaming convention in North America, has announced a multi-year sustainability campaign that will feature several 2018 components, including the reduction of millions of pages of paper and paper waste, upcycling single-year signage into collector’s items, new “unboxing stations” for the recycling of game packaging, testing of digital ticketing, and support for food rescue efforts. This on-going sustainability initiative supports Indianapolis’ “It’s My City” campaign and the company hopes to provide a template for sustainability initiatives for other conventions and events as well.

“Just as Indianapolis loves welcoming Gen Con to our city each year, Gen Con has shown their commitment to Indianapolis – working to lessen their environmental impact and actively participate in the betterment of our community,” said Mayor Joe Hogsett. “This year, as Gen Con proclaims ‘It’s My City,’ I encourage all local organizations to take ownership of the place we call home, and join in our efforts to create a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Indianapolis.”

Gen Con Names Indianapolis Public Library as Literacy Partner

Convention to Host Bookmobile, Promote Literacy in Indy Libraries

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INDIANAPOLIS (April 13, 2018) Gen Con, the largest and longest running gaming and hobby convention in North America, has named The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation as its Literacy Partner for the August 2-5, 2018 convention. As part of this agreement, Gen Con will supply the Library Foundation with more than 100 convention badges to support youth literacy, summer reading programs, and summer costume contests that take place in Indy libraries. Gen Con also will have a presence for the Library Foundation in the Indiana Convention Center during the event, and will host a bookmobile on-site on Sunday, August 5.

“We are grateful Gen Con has named us as their literacy partner,” said Roberta Jaggers, president of the Library Foundation. “The Library Foundation supports many of The Indianapolis Public Library’s literacy initiatives because we believe in the power of reading to transform lives. Both reading and playing games are immersive experiences that open doors to new worlds. Reading and gaming go hand-in-hand.”

Those interested in participating in library programming and learning more about the badge giveaways should go to the Library Foundations social media pages on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/IndyPLFndtn/ and Twitter @IndyPL_Fndtn to learn more. Participation with the bookmobile on Sunday, August 5 will not require a Gen Con 2018 badge, and any local residents are encouraged to attend.

“The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation provides a tremendous resource and bedrock for the Indy community,” said Jake Theis, Director of Marketing for Gen Con. “The relationship between gaming, literacy, and learning is strong, and we’re delighted to help the library’s efforts in any way possible.”

Gen Con 2018 will return to the Indiana Convention Center Thursday, August 2 through Sunday, August 5 in Indianapolis. Last year marked an historic milestone when the convention celebrated its 50th show, setting record attendance numbers and selling out for the first time in its history. Gen Con expects to sell out of attendee badges prior to the convention this year as well.

My Dragonfire play through and review. This is my first attempt at a real play through.  I hope you like it. I do believe  I made an error or 2. I think i’m going to post a follow up video that is a play through of the first round. I learned a lot and had all kinds of problems with software. That caused issues with YouTube postponing the publication of this video. In other words I’m sorry this took so long.

With it all said and done I can say that I thoroughly enjoy Dragonfire and I hope to see a lot of expansion items for it in the future.

Fantasy Flight Games’ Lovecraft-inspired board game gets a stand-alone adventure game early 2019

PARIS — April 17, 2018 — Asmodee Digital, the industry leader in digital board games, announced today that it will publish a brand-new adventure game based on Fantasy Flight Games’ Mansions of Madness, an award-winning board game celebrated for its high production values, Lovecraft-inspired art, and unique fusion of physical and digital gameplay mechanics. Developed by Luckyhammers, the Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace video game is the next evolution of the iconic game and is scheduled to hit Steam (PC/Mac) early 2019.

In Mansions of Madness: Mother’s Embrace, players will lead a team of investigators through an eerie mansion while uncovering its dark secrets. Everything is not what it seems as the investigators encounter traps, monsters, and other Lovecraftian horrors, and descend deeper into the depths of madness. Will your team solve the mystery and make it out alive?

“At Asmodee Digital, we’re focused on creating new digital experiences based on beloved board-game IPs. The characters, adventures and universe introduced in the Mansions of Madness board game lend themselves well to an adventure video game, and we look forward to bringing the IP to life in a new way,” said Philippe Dao, Chief Marketing Officer of Asmodee Digital. “We have a passion for board games and want to take risks to elevate the genre. Working alongside great partners like Fantasy Flight Games and Luckyhammers allows us to do that.”

Print 1Hello Everyone,

When I say everyone I mean wargamers, role-players, and even board gamers. Today I would like to share with you a new find that can be used in just about every facet of tabletop gaming. 3D printable terrain from Printable Scenery.  3D printers a re a thing and we many of us have toyed with the idea of using them for our ridiculous game ideas. Some of us may have even purchased one and followed through with those ideas. I have not.

When I first discovered Printable Scenery I thought they were 3d paper scenery pdf.  then I visited the website and said “What!” I had no idea that they were plastic – I don’t know what IO was thinking. Then I discovered they recently did a kickstarter for Lost Islands. If you are like me and you can never have enough terrain check it out.
