Dark Eldar 1000 point List

This is one of my favorite lists of all times at 1000 points.  Not only is this list easy to play it allows you to apply several different strategies while it is on the table.   It just doesn’t matter what you are playing against with this list you stand a a chance.  It is balanced.  Yet it’s fairly straight forward.  While the Dark Eldar as a whole are a pretty balanced army this one is a shooting army.   That doesn’t mean they can’t hold their own in close combat it just means they  will do better without it.

The army contains only 56 models. While that is not an impressive number the important thing to note is the firepower.  We will look at that in a minute.  Here is the list

Game Review Warhammer 40K

Warhammer 40K is another sci-fi skirmish game.  It has a huge following.  It is both loved and hated by gamers around the world.  There is just so much one can say in the great GW argument, but we aren’t here to fuel that debate.  I am here to give an honest review of Warhammer 40K

Here is my brief history  of 40k.  In November of 2004 (the night bfore Thanksgiving actually)  I painted my first 40 Dark Eldar Warriors.   For, oh the next 3 years we played pretty hard, 2 or 3 nights a week.  So, what happened?  Life just kind of got in the way.  Our 4oK games began to grind down.  We still play a game or 2 a year but it is nothing like it used to  be.

So here we go the roller coaster known as 40K.

Warhammer 40k Uses an archaic set of game rules.  The largest detriment to the game is the whole army activations.  The game industry moved away from this around 2003.  Not only is whole army activation old it slows down game play.  The game would play much faster if the interaction of activations alternated form player to player instead of army to army.  Further, if  the activations alternated squad to squad the game would allow for more tactics.

Halloween is so close I can almost feel the eerie excitement.   Every year around this time I wish I had a goood gaming costume.   I mean every year I go to these conventions and think how cool some of these costumes are.  Every year I say next year I will have one.  The problem is to just buy a costume you might spend over a thousand dollars.  Well, next year I won’t  have a cool one but I sure will be off to a good start.

While there is no limit to what you can do with your imagination when it comes to costuming you have to start somewhere.  I have always wanted to make a ranger type of costume.  This is something that I will have to do in baby steps, actually my wife will be doing all the work.  For the start of the project, which will take a year or two to budget all the time for, I have decided on a shirt and a cape.  These items should prove fairly easy to make.  The materiel’s needed should also prove to be inexpensive. Building 16k the Beginning

This is my tale of building 16k.  It will include everything from lists, to painting, and maybe more.

Yes, I know you are thinking this is crazy. Who would build a 16,000 point fantasy army. Well, most of think it is, but most of us around here like to play with all of our toys and we do not fall into your standard category of just playing one list. Which we actually believe to be a great gaming crime. So, it actually makes sense for us to play a large game.

I have to thank my buddy for this idea though. About 4 years ago he purchased 16k plus worth of vampire counts. Ever since I have been trying to catch up.

With Games Workshop on the price hike rampage a few of our players are looking for other options for their fantasy miniatures fix.   While I have known about Mantic for almost a year now I have not entertained the thought of their product line.   We always felt that our money would be better spent on items we knew would move.  But, with some of the recent events in the game industry our players are diligently trying to make the shift from spending more money on less product to spending less money on more product.  So I was asked to look that the rules.

Here is what I found before play testing.

The rules are pretty darn good.

They are simple.

Here is what I like about the game.  The magic system is figured right into the cost of the character.   The winner of combat is determined by a nerve (command/morale in other game systems) check.   It has a fast pace – 2000 point game should take about an hour to play.   The models look good and are inexpensive.

Here is where I have reservations about the game.   While the rules are simple and scale well, if you plan on running tournaments you might need to interpret the rules for your players.  There are no casualties in combat; I just can’t figure out if I like this or not.

Here is what I do not like about the game.  Without play testing the game the only thing I dislike is the fact that it does not use alternate activations.

There is one more thing that Mantic is doing right that you should know about – they are making a sci fi game.
