MAGIC: THE GATHERING ANNOUNCES MAGIC ORIGINS

New Set to Release on July 17

Marks Pivotal Moment in Magic’s History and Lore

February 9, 2015 – RENTON, WA – Wizards of the Coast announced today Magic Origins, a new Magic: The Gathering set releasing this July. This pivotal new set reveals the origin stories of five of Magic‘s most beloved Planeswalker characters.

In the Magic: The Gathering Multiverse, some mages are born with a rare gift, simply known as “the spark.” When such mages face a great ordeal, their spark’s potential is unleashed, elevating them to become Planeswalkers and travel between the planes of the Multiverse. Magic Origins will reveal for the first time these pivotal moments for five Planeswalkers: Gideon Jura, Jace Beleren, Liliana Vess, Chandra Nalaar, and Nissa Revane.

“Magic Origins is a different kind of core set than we’ve ever done before, one with ambitious story goals and deep creative impact,” says Doug Beyer, Magic‘s senior creative designer. “All core sets in recent years have had Planeswalker cards, but Magic Origins doesn’t just contain five Planeswalkers-it’s also about those Planeswalker characters. We’ll see these characters’ home worlds, learn about the joys and crises of their early lives, and discover how they became the Multiverse-traveling Planeswalkers we know today.”

Today, Wizards of the Coast announced the latest Dungeons & Dragons storyline, Elemental Evil, which includes new product offerings for both digital and tabletop RPG players.

The Elemental Evil storyline will begin this March and run through mid-summer allowing players to explore the Forgotten Realms and defeat the secret cults that threaten to wipe out the Sword Coast.

Some of the exciting new product offerings tied to the Elemental Evil story line includes:

Neverwinter: Elemental Evil, a new module for the MMORPG
Princes of the Apocalypse tabletop RPG adventure, including new options and spells for players

The Role of Character

What does it mean to have character? If you are like most players you will start defining your path by picking your race and rolling some stats. Then you pick a class and maybe an alignment, and then you gear up for adventure. For many that’s all there is to creating a character, but for what I believe to be a much more exciting experience, personality needs to be bred into the character. I don’t mean a superficial background that is created by a few random rolls; I mean one that gives a certain amount of depth to one’s personality thus influencing thought patterns. Creating a character like that is a challenge that introduces ethical challenges that go beyond an alignment or dispositions established by a particular game system.

Magic 2015 Puts Garruk’s Fate in Players’ Hands

Renton, WA, October 21, 2014 – Wizards of the Coast today announced Garruk’s Revenge, a brand new expansion for Magic 2015 – Duels of the Planeswalkers. The expansion brings additional content to Magic 2015 and puts the fate of Garruk Wildspeaker, the deadliest hunter in the Multiverse, in the player’s hands as he seeks his revenge. Garruk’s Revenge will be available on PC via Steam and Android via Google Play starting November 5^th. Additional platforms including Xbox One, Xbox 360, Apple iPad and the Amazon Kindle will be available shortly thereafter.

Available for $4.99, Garruk’s Revenge will feature a collection of fan-favorite cards from the Alara block, delighting and challenging new and long-time Magic fans alike. With four new campaign levels and an expanded explore level, players will take on the role of Garruk, using his deck to battle their way through challenging foes. With every victory Garruk’s deck improves, and players will unlock cards from Alara to later modify their own deck creations as they hunt their prey across the planes of the Multiverse.

Along with the release of Garruk’s Revenge, all cards in both the original Magic 2015 campaign, Hunt Bigger Game and the Expansion are now entirely earnable through gameplay. With the release of this expansion, players who have unlocked access to the game’s five initial chapters (Innistrad, Theros, Ravnica, Zendikar, and Shandalar) now have the opportunity to earn Battle Boosters (previously called Premium Boosters) by winning multiplayer matches.
