While looking at green I have concluded that green is just kind of blah. Now, I don’t mean that in a negative way. Green in Innistrad is just so similar from card to card that only a few cards stand out. We will get to those in a moment. Green has a couple of recurring themes that happen too frequently. They are +X/+X where X is number of creatures in your graveyard and werewolves. They both happen so much that it waters them down. I do not really like the fact that Green is full of transforming cards, and I even dislike the trigger for them more.
On to the cards.
Ambush Viper 1g
Creature – Snake Common
Flash
Deathtouch
Illus. Alan Pollack #169/264 2/1
I think this guy might just be the best common. Flash and Deathtouch on a weenie is awesome. I really like the synergy this guy will give to White and Green creature decks.
Garruk Relentless // Garruk, the Veil-Cursed 3g
Planeswalker – Garruk Mythic Rare
When Garruk Relentless has two or fewer loyalty counters on him, transform him.
0: Garruk Relentless deals 3 damage to target creature. That creature deals damage equal to its power to him
0: Put a 2/2 green Wolf creature token onto the battlefield.
//
{bg}
+1 : Put a 1/1 black Wolf creature token with deathtouch onto the battlefield.
-1 : Sacrifice a creature. If you do, search your library for a creature card, reveal it, put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.
-3 : Creatures you control gain trample and get +X/+X until end of turn, where X is the number of creature cards in your graveyard.
Illus. Eric Deschamps #181/264 3
This guy has potential. At first, I really did not like him, but the fact that for 0 he can cause himself to transform and kill a creature has really changed my mind. I think that if you can drop him, kill a creature and then search for your own creature next turn makes this guy a serious threat in constructed.
Splinterfright 2g
Creature – Elemental Rare
Trample
Splinterfright’s power and toughness are each equal to the number of creature cards in your graveyard
At the beginning of your upkeep, put the top two cards of your library into your graveyard.
Illus. Eric Deschamps #205/264 */*
I almost passed this guy over. At first i was thinking ooo +x/+x (not again), but then I noticed trample. That is huge. his guy could be the swing in the curve that some weenie decks need to compete again.
Enchantment – Aura Uncommon
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature gets +X/+X, where X is the number of creature cards in your graveyard.
Before you travel the woods of Kessig, get permission from those who died trying.
Illus. Jason A. Engle #211/264
I am not a huge fan of enchantments, but this one is all right. For one green +X/+X is more than acceptable, especially in limited. Tomorrow we will move to Red.
