With only eight days left I’m going to start sharing the games I’m looking forward to. I doubt I will get to try them all with nearly thirty interviews scheduled at Gen COn 2016. This list will be presented in no particular order, but I think, at times, you will be able to tell which ones I anticipate more.
The first game is Star Trek Panic. I have not yet played any of the panic games, even though I have wanted to; life is a nasty villian sometimes that gets in the way of gaming. You might think that as a reviewer I play more games than the average individual. I’m not entirely sure that is true, I think I get to play about as much as most gamers. The difference is I almost always get to experience something new, which is cool most of the time.
Why Star Trek Panic? One it’s Star Trek and with the franchise turning 50 good things are happening. This is just what I believe the first of many will be. I’m a Star Trek fan. Plus, one of the mechanics reminds loosely of Star Fleet Battles, a game I used to play frequently.
Here is what I know
It is the fourth “panic” game.
You play in the Kirk era.
It comes with a cool 3d version of the Enterprise.
One of the key elements is recording damage doen to different sections of the ship. This is the part that reminds me of Star fleet Battles. It’s not nearly as tgactical but I really like the flavor it gives the game.
It is card driven and the cards are dependent on the number of players.
You can play the different characters, and they each have different special abilities reflectiung their personality and role from the Original series.
It’s a Co-operative game.
Without playing any of the panic I can’t say I have any reservations about Star Trek Panic.
