MtG Duel Deck: Venser vs. Koth

$ 19.99 SRP

The Planeswalker Koth, from the metal plane of Mirrodin, sought help when his world darkened. He traveled to Dominaria to enlist allies and met fellow Planeswalker Venser. When Venser recognized the threat to Koth’s world was none other than Phyrexia, he knew that the only hope for Mirrodin was to find its maker. But that would mean forsaking its people in the meantime. Koth would rather die than turn his back on his fellow Mirrans. But Venser all but knew they would die anyway if they failed to reach Karn, his former mentor and creator of Mirrodin. Two Planeswalkers, one goal, very different methods. Recreate the struggle to lead the way to Mirrodin’s salvation.

Press Release From Paizo

Top 16 Advance to Round 3 of RPG Superstar

Finalists to Design Original Monsters by End of Week

 February 7, 2012 (REDMOND, Wash.) – Sixteen amateur game designers have advanced to Round 3 of Paizo Publishing’s RPG Superstar, the largest open-call tabletop roleplaying design contest in history. 2009 RPG Superstar champion Neil Spicer joined celebrity judges Clark Peterson, Ryan Dancey, and Sean K Reynolds to critique 32 original organizations designed by Round 1 finalists. In this round, fan votes determine who advances to Round 3, in which the Top 16 will design original monsters with full game statistics. All finalist submissions, complete with judge and reader commentary, are posted to the paizo.com messageboards.

 “It’s always interesting to see how the competitors embrace each round’s challenge. Some play it conservatively, some appeal to a specific fanbase, and a few charge ahead to create something wild and innovative,” said judge and Paizo game developer Sean K Reynolds. “This year we had several traditional organizations like mercenary soldiers and seekers of lost knowledge, and unusual ones like a clan of succubus-geishas and a fleet of whale-riding pirates. As a judge, I’m always impressed with the creativity of the competitors—even the weird ones!”
The Top 16 finalists for RPG Superstar 2012 and their winning entries to date are:
Will Cooper (Auckland, New Zealand)
Ghostvision gloves, Stormsworn Company
Adam Donald (Toronto, Ontario)
Flask of Liquid Sunlight, The Red Bastards
Bob Drouin (Columbia, Maryland)
Figurine of Familiar Power, Fear, Fist and Flame
Andrew Marlowe (Cincinnati, OH)
Cayden’s Cup, Andoran Mercantile League
Jacob Michaels (Bethlehem, PA)
Haunting Glass, The Unfettered
Steve Miller (Raleigh, NC)
Night Monarch Vardo, Arcadian Interceptors
James Olchak (Raleigh, NC)
Rajah’s Silhouette, Cold Hearth Lodge
Tom Phillips (Fleming Island, FL)
Feywhisper Crown, Sisters of Chana-Zhol
Sam Polak (Apex, NC)
Moonlight Flute of the Ghost Hunter, Riders of the Black Steppe
James Raine (Fairfield, CA)
Spellbreaker Gauntlets, Besmara’s Chosen
David Ross (Petoskey, MI)
Clockwork Conscience, Dreamstitchers
Daniel Rust (London, England)
Elixir of Resurgent Flame, Anointed Choir of the Rapture
Chris Shaeffer (Lansfale, PA)
Scent of the Savored Sting, The Pure Line
Jacob Trier (Aarhus, Denmark)
Sunrise Shawl, The Maidens of Veiled Vengeance
Russell Vaneekhoven (Rancho Cordova, CA)
Chimaeric Mantle, The Foulgrip Rangers
Mike Welham (Kernersville, NC)
Raptoring Gloves, Monster Reformation Alliance
The Top 16 will now be required to design Pathfinder Roleplaying Game statistics for an original monster concept and submit their complete monster write-up by 2:00 PM Pacific time on Friday, February 10. On February 14, Paizo will reveal judge comments on all 16 submissions to the general public, who will then get to discuss the entries and vote for their favorites. Voting ends on February 20, and the Top 8 (by votes) will move on to Round 4.
The ultimate winner of RPG Superstar, announced April 3, 2012, will write a Pathfinder Module to be published in early 2013. The 2011 RPG Superstar champion module, Sam Zeitlin’s The Midnight Mirror, releases in April 2012.

Stonepick Crossing

$ 12.00 SRP

The tiny thorp of Stonepick Crossing sits on top of an old dwarven dam holding. The dam was built some 500 years ago, ending a long war between a clan of dwarves and a clan of goblins that infested a highly-defensible cave complex. Recognizing the futility of direct assault, the dwarves built the dam to flood the goblin caves, flushing the foul creatures out of their caves and into the slaughter of honest combat. Now 500 years later, the dwarves have moved on and a small thorp has sprung up. The town is named for the dwarven clan leader who waged war against the goblins, Eltoren Stonepick. Near the protected town atop its dam, farmers till the soil around the lake created by the construction. 1st-3rd level characters

Down the Shadowvein

Down the Shadowvein picks up where The Pod Caverns of the Sinister Shroom left off, but it can be played by those who have not explored that module. Down the Shadowvein continues in The Mouth of the Shadowvein. 3rd-5th level characters

Feudality

$ 59.99 SRP

A long time ago in Europe, ages were pretty dark. The distribution of wealth back then left a lot to be desired. Greedy people banded together to take things from other people so that the rich could get richer and the poor could have even less. Twas ever thus. Step into the middle of the normal state of human affairs as a Baron or Baroness somewhere in Europe a long time ago. Thanks to your birth you have a lot of little people working to make you richer, and you, in turn, are doing your best to make your king even more prosperous. If you do things right, you might someday be king.

Each player starts with a Fiefdom Management card, divided into 64 squares (49 of which can have tiles played on them. Into four of these squares you deploy your Keep, in which you will put your fortification of some sort, and your soldiers. Elsewhere in your land you deploy assorted resource gatherers and buildings in an effort to grow, prosper, and score victory points. Along the way there may be wars, invasions, tournaments, taxes, and a lot of other nonsense.

Dragon Valley

$ 60.00 Srp

** Game Salute Select exclusive. One-page sign-up at www.gamesalute.com/selectstoresignup **

“Times are dire here around Dragon Valley. We’re fighting off waves of orc armies, goblin war machines and even the flying lizards themselves. For now the mountain pass remains secure but our scouts have reported large gatherings in the valley and we’re expecting a full scale assault before the season’s end. If that wasn’t enough to worry about, our neighbors are also preparing for war and petitioning the king for his troops and supplies which are already spread thin. It seems you’ll not only be fighting a war of steel, but one of words as well.”

Game Play:
Players take turns dividing items such as knights and archers, building materials for blacksmith shops and towers, special powers and even attackers. The attackers consist of dragons, orcs and battering rams that emerge from mountain passes into each player’s lands. After dividing, other players select the group of items they prefer and leave the remainder with the player who did the dividing. After that, players use special cards to interfere with each others plans. The last step each round is for players to setup defenses, destroy the attackers or laying siege on the orc strongholds scattered throughout Dragon Valley.
