Catacombs: Horde of Vermin

$ 25.99 SRP

Rats, bats, snakes! While exploring the Catacomb the heroes encounter hordes of them crawling and flying everywhere! Catacombs: Horde of Vermin is a new expansion for the award winning dexterity game Catacombs. In the base game, the heroes valiantly fight monsters from the dungeon, mythological, infernal and undead family. This expansion introduces the vermin family: seven new monsters from hordes of Rats to the horrendous Remorhaz who crawl from the sewers to challenge the heroes. Do not be deceived by the diminutive size of these monsters, with their ability to instill fear and inflict poison attacks on even the most battle hardened warriors. Left untreated, poisoned heroes can meet a swift end. Fortunately, the heroes can retaliate with new items including the lethal Vermin Blade. Furthermore, the Wizard gets new spells to cure poison and the ability to cast the powerful Giant Fireball. Also included are new rules and enhanced cards for owners of the Cavern of Soloth expansion.

“Character” Creation: More than Mechanics

Introduction

This is the first in a series of articles about “Character” Creation?  What do I mean by that?  (Especially the part with “Character” inside quotation marks.)  I mean, all the parts that are not covered in the basic mechanics of a particular RPG’s character creation system.  I mean the creation and development “universal” aspects of an RPG character – personality, attitude, behavior, motivation, psychology, etc.  I mean those parts that are at the heart of the “Role-Playing” experience (as opposed to the “roll-playing” experience). Romulans RPG Soure Book Will be Out in March

Romulans

$ 24.95 SRP

ROMULANS! The very name sends shockwaves of terror through the Federation (and waves of anguish through the Klingons and other empires). With their cloaked ships, deadly plasma torpedoes, and self-aggrandizing attitude, the Romulans are just full of themselves (and full of trouble for everyone else in the galaxy). This sourcebook has been updated and revised for the modern versions of 20-sided dice RPG systems. Everything you want to know about these ex-Vulcan renegades is here. History, political system, politics, culture, and society, it’s all here. The Great Houses, extended families that function as gigantic corporations, control most of the economy, but each House is more concerned with its own wealth than with the Empire at large. Somehow, the Emperor must play the Great Houses off against each other to maintain any progress (and keep himself on the throne!) in the face of Federation economic pressure. The book details the justice system, religions, military forces, weapons, starships, and much more. The book includes complete deck plans of the SkyHawk war destroyer, the workhorse of the Romulan fleet. Deck plans and characters are included for Abbraxas Station, the primary point of contact with the Federation. Also included are detailed surveys of all major (and several more) Romulan planets. This book has everything you need to fight the Romulans — or to become one!

Press Release From Paizo

Top 16 Advance to Round 3 of RPG Superstar

Finalists to Design Original Monsters by End of Week

 February 7, 2012 (REDMOND, Wash.) – Sixteen amateur game designers have advanced to Round 3 of Paizo Publishing’s RPG Superstar, the largest open-call tabletop roleplaying design contest in history. 2009 RPG Superstar champion Neil Spicer joined celebrity judges Clark Peterson, Ryan Dancey, and Sean K Reynolds to critique 32 original organizations designed by Round 1 finalists. In this round, fan votes determine who advances to Round 3, in which the Top 16 will design original monsters with full game statistics. All finalist submissions, complete with judge and reader commentary, are posted to the paizo.com messageboards.

 “It’s always interesting to see how the competitors embrace each round’s challenge. Some play it conservatively, some appeal to a specific fanbase, and a few charge ahead to create something wild and innovative,” said judge and Paizo game developer Sean K Reynolds. “This year we had several traditional organizations like mercenary soldiers and seekers of lost knowledge, and unusual ones like a clan of succubus-geishas and a fleet of whale-riding pirates. As a judge, I’m always impressed with the creativity of the competitors—even the weird ones!”
The Top 16 finalists for RPG Superstar 2012 and their winning entries to date are:
Will Cooper (Auckland, New Zealand)
Ghostvision gloves, Stormsworn Company
Adam Donald (Toronto, Ontario)
Flask of Liquid Sunlight, The Red Bastards
Bob Drouin (Columbia, Maryland)
Figurine of Familiar Power, Fear, Fist and Flame

Tom Phillips (Fleming Island, FL)
Feywhisper Crown, Sisters of Chana-Zhol
Sam Polak (Apex, NC)
Moonlight Flute of the Ghost Hunter, Riders of the Black Steppe
James Raine (Fairfield, CA)
Spellbreaker Gauntlets, Besmara’s Chosen

Daniel Rust (London, England)
Elixir of Resurgent Flame, Anointed Choir of the Rapture
Chris Shaeffer (Lansfale, PA)
Scent of the Savored Sting, The Pure Line
Jacob Trier (Aarhus, Denmark)
Sunrise Shawl, The Maidens of Veiled Vengeance
Russell Vaneekhoven (Rancho Cordova, CA)
Chimaeric Mantle, The Foulgrip Rangers
Mike Welham (Kernersville, NC)
Raptoring Gloves, Monster Reformation Alliance
The Top 16 will now be required to design Pathfinder Roleplaying Game statistics for an original monster concept and submit their complete monster write-up by 2:00 PM Pacific time on Friday, February 10. On February 14, Paizo will reveal judge comments on all 16 submissions to the general public, who will then get to discuss the entries and vote for their favorites. Voting ends on February 20, and the Top 8 (by votes) will move on to Round 4.
The ultimate winner of RPG Superstar, announced April 3, 2012, will write a Pathfinder Module to be published in early 2013. The 2011 RPG Superstar champion module, Sam Zeitlin’s The Midnight Mirror, releases in April 2012.

Stonepick Crossing

$ 12.00 SRP

The tiny thorp of Stonepick Crossing sits on top of an old dwarven dam holding. The dam was built some 500 years ago, ending a long war between a clan of dwarves and a clan of goblins that infested a highly-defensible cave complex. Recognizing the futility of direct assault, the dwarves built the dam to flood the goblin caves, flushing the foul creatures out of their caves and into the slaughter of honest combat. Now 500 years later, the dwarves have moved on and a small thorp has sprung up. The town is named for the dwarven clan leader who waged war against the goblins, Eltoren Stonepick. Near the protected town atop its dam, farmers till the soil around the lake created by the construction. 1st-3rd level characters

Down the Shadowvein

$ 14.00 SRP

You carefully load your canoes and launch into the fast-moving waters of the underground river named Shadowvein. The Pod-Caverns of the Sinister Shroom behind you, the veracity of the map that is to be your guide into the dark unknown will soon be tested. Hopefully what is written is accurate, but if it is not, your wits, wile, and brawn should serve you well as you journey down the Shadowvein! Down the Shadowvein picks up where The Pod Caverns of the Sinister Shroom left off, but it can be played by those who have not explored that module. Down the Shadowvein continues in The Mouth of the Shadowvein. 3rd-5th level characters
