I have already done a review of Force on Force based off of the demonstration game I played at Origins Game Fair.   This will be a little more in depth than that review.   You can read that here.

Most of you probably already know that Force on Force is a modern warfare skirmish game published by Osprey Publishing for Ambush Alley Games.  It is an independent miniatures game without a miniatures line.  The book has several recommendations where you can purchase models .  I originally thought that not having a minis line would be detrimental, but the rules are set up so you can freely play any modern forces from 1960 to present.  The other unique part about not having a line of minis is there is no set scale.  You get to determine the size of your battlefield based off of what you own.

Today we are going to talk about building some “cracked Earth” desert Terrain.   If you like modular terrain over building tables this is a very simple project that yields high results.    If you want to you can even use this concept as a base for your whole table.

In order to do this project you will only need a few supplies.  They are a putty knife, crackle texture paint,  paint brush, water, brown paint and a can or a container for making a wash in.

HINT:  More often than not people buy more crackle texture paint than they need.   If you have a Restore (Habitat for Humnaity), or a thrift store near by you can find it cheap.  We only paid fifty cents a bottle.  The color doesn’t even matter because you are going to paint it.

The first step is to shape and contour your hills; which was already done for us.

We will start with step 2.  Which is to spread the crackle paint on the terrain.  This is really pretty simple, just smear it on.  We have discovered the best thickness to be about a quarter of an inch.  I suppose that it really depends on the amount of humidity in your work area though.  By putting it on at about that thickness it gave us a nice amount of cracking.   The pieces that had thinner layers seem to dry to quick and the cracks were much closer together.

Mage Wars Coming in June

Mage Wars is a tactical board game, a combination of a card game and miniatures game, combining the best elements from each game. The game is played on an arena game board which is divided into square areas called “zones”. Zones regulate movement and placement of objects. Each Mage (player) starts in a corner of the arena, opposite his enemy. Each player holds a spellbook, from which spell cards are pulled out as they are cast during the game. This has the feel of being a real Mage, turning the pages of your tome of magic, as you plan your strategy each turn. You have full access to cast any spell you want each turn, allowing for an unprecedented level of rich strategy and tactics.

It seems like only it was only yesterday that I played my first WARMACHINE game.  I remember thinking it was a fun game and that the company would bury themselves.  Well,  not only was I wrong they made it through ten years of gamers.  I am sure Privateer looks back at the ten years with puffy chests, and they should.   They have accomplished so many great things.  But that is not why I am writing you today.  In all of the partying Privateer has announced a 10th anniversary no Quarter.  It is going to be one massive issue with reflections of the past.   But, that is not all Privateer Press is running all kinds of sales as part of the celebrations.

So thank you, Privateer Press for remembering us in your success.
