The Convention Experience is Live on Kickstarter

Gen con 014I am proud to announce that our Kickstarter project is live!  The project is all about what it means to attend a convention on a media level as well as an attendee.  Which is really pretty loaded.  But it is really so much more than those simple words.  The project reflects who we are at Through Gamer Goggles.

It will go beyond just footage of the convention and create personal experiences of backers.  It took me quite a bit of time to figure out a way that I could give this project back to those who support it with a little more meaning.

Check it out on Kickstarter!

Gen con 014Hey Friends,

Real soon we are going to launch our Kickstarter project the Convention Experience.   While most of the details will be brought to you by the project I wanted to take some time and share with you why this is personal to me.   Sometimes I feel that the blog is too impersonal and you don’t get to see how passionate I am.  That is something that bothers me.   This is my opportunity to share something with you that goes beyond mere coverage and start to make the change.

When I was challenged to start this blog by my friend, Ryan Hale, it was intended that the coverage was going to be news, reviews and the blending of real life with gaming.   I think I’ve had some great successes and that I am still trying to find my footing in some areas.  With almost 300 YouTube videos published it is clear where I’ve succeeded.   But I feel a need to do more,  I am going to return the original vision and add more real life to the blog.  I really can’t think of a better place to start than Gen Con.

Bullets and Bandages available now for SR 5

We have a new electronic release for you today! Bullets & Bandages (BattleshopDriveThruRPG), the latest book in our Shadowrun Options line, is now out. Packed with fun info about medtech, high-threat response teams, and optional rules to use in you Shadowrun game, Bullets & Bandages gives you the chance to add more details to healing the bumps, bruises, and bullet wounds runners in the Sixth World often take. And it’s got information that will make it usable to both Shadowrun, Fifth Editionplayers and those using Shadowrun, Twentieth Anniversary Edition. Here’s the full description:

Sew ’Em Up, Ride ’Em Out

The only reason shadowrunners have scars to show off during their downtime is that when they got hit, someone had the guts, the skill, and the speed to pull them out of whatever drekstorm they’d gotten themselves into. Maybe it was a DocWagon High Threat Response team who rode in to save the day, or maybe a teammate who’d picked up some handy medical skills in the course of their career in the shadows patched them up enough to keep them moving. Either way, having someone who can pull your hoop out of the fire is handy in any situation. Make sure you thank them and buy ’em a drink—assuming, of course, they made it out with you.

CompoundedIn the resource management game Compounded players use elements one would find in an ordinary high school chemistry lab to create compounds to earn points. It sounds simple, but there are more mechanics involved that can change the game every time you play. One of these allows the players to barter among themselves. To further the degree of strategy involved there is a random factor to the game providing twists and turns in the critical thinking process of the players planning.

Valiant-RPG-Digital-Initiative-Covers_Unity500 Have you seen the new quick start rules for Valiant Universe RPG? I have. They made me reminisce on some of my early RPG days. In high school we role-played like it was our life. I can’t tell you how much D&D we played. We also played Marvel Super Heroes, Rifts, and even a little bit of DC mingled its way in. We had countless night where we would sneak out of our respective houses and meet up to play in a tent. Yes, I said a tent. Which didn’t do so well in the winter, but we managed to find a barn. There wasn’t any heat at first but we made it work.

I was and I still am very fond of the Marvel Super Heroes Game. It was the first RPG that expanded my vision of what RPG’s could encompass. The game also had a unique flair to it with karma and and power shifts. Valiant is going to be a game that does that same exact thing. Catalyst has introduced some very unique concepts that might just influence the future of story telling games. Two of these are the cue system and the introduction of a lead narrator, at least I have never seen it before.

The Cue system in a nutshell is this; character definition. On each character sheet there is a series of sentences that depict the characters personality. Some of these reflect the hidden identity of the character while others display attitude of the hero, and some exemplify the approach taken in combat. Basically, they are a guideline to influence the players decision making while attempting to stay in character.
