Howdy gamers!  And welcome back to Through Gamer Goggles.  This is the second episode of our first Silvervine game session, led by THE John Arcadian..

In this week’s episode we describe our characters (and learn a little too much about Matt).  After that we try to determine if worms are kosher, and discover that Squirmy will work for his can.

So what will the group do next?  Will they seek employment from the Thieves’ Guild? Will they go see the folks that dared attack the Thieves’ Guild in broad daylight? Will Bonsai get distracted by something shiny? (Well, that’s a guarantee.)  Or will they do something totally random?  Find out in our next episode!

Romulans RPG Soure Book Will be Out in March

Romulans

$ 24.95 SRP

ROMULANS! The very name sends shockwaves of terror through the Federation (and waves of anguish through the Klingons and other empires). With their cloaked ships, deadly plasma torpedoes, and self-aggrandizing attitude, the Romulans are just full of themselves (and full of trouble for everyone else in the galaxy). This sourcebook has been updated and revised for the modern versions of 20-sided dice RPG systems. Everything you want to know about these ex-Vulcan renegades is here. History, political system, politics, culture, and society, it’s all here. The Great Houses, extended families that function as gigantic corporations, control most of the economy, but each House is more concerned with its own wealth than with the Empire at large. Somehow, the Emperor must play the Great Houses off against each other to maintain any progress (and keep himself on the throne!) in the face of Federation economic pressure. The book details the justice system, religions, military forces, weapons, starships, and much more. The book includes complete deck plans of the SkyHawk war destroyer, the workhorse of the Romulan fleet. Deck plans and characters are included for Abbraxas Station, the primary point of contact with the Federation. Also included are detailed surveys of all major (and several more) Romulan planets. This book has everything you need to fight the Romulans — or to become one!

L5R Embers of War BD

L5R: Embers of War SD

In the distant Colonies, once known as the Ivory Kingdoms, the samurai of Rokugan gather the resources the Empire needs to survive. Threatened by unknown enemies and pitted against one another in politics and economics, will their honor and steel prove strong enough for the Second City to survive? Embers of War is the brand new expansion for the fan-favorite Legend of the Five Rings Collectible Card Game from AEG. It follows the release of Emperor Edition, the new base set, releasing in February 2012. Now that peace has settled and the riches of the new land conquered by the Empress’ forces are discovered, new alliances and rivalries are formed, both on the mainland and the Colonies. Who will benefit the most?

I have recently reclaimed some of my L5R collection and I am looking forward to this.

Press Release From Paizo

Top 16 Advance to Round 3 of RPG Superstar

Finalists to Design Original Monsters by End of Week

 February 7, 2012 (REDMOND, Wash.) – Sixteen amateur game designers have advanced to Round 3 of Paizo Publishing’s RPG Superstar, the largest open-call tabletop roleplaying design contest in history. 2009 RPG Superstar champion Neil Spicer joined celebrity judges Clark Peterson, Ryan Dancey, and Sean K Reynolds to critique 32 original organizations designed by Round 1 finalists. In this round, fan votes determine who advances to Round 3, in which the Top 16 will design original monsters with full game statistics. All finalist submissions, complete with judge and reader commentary, are posted to the paizo.com messageboards.

 “It’s always interesting to see how the competitors embrace each round’s challenge. Some play it conservatively, some appeal to a specific fanbase, and a few charge ahead to create something wild and innovative,” said judge and Paizo game developer Sean K Reynolds. “This year we had several traditional organizations like mercenary soldiers and seekers of lost knowledge, and unusual ones like a clan of succubus-geishas and a fleet of whale-riding pirates. As a judge, I’m always impressed with the creativity of the competitors—even the weird ones!”
The Top 16 finalists for RPG Superstar 2012 and their winning entries to date are:
Will Cooper (Auckland, New Zealand)
Ghostvision gloves, Stormsworn Company
Adam Donald (Toronto, Ontario)

Mike Welham (Kernersville, NC)
Raptoring Gloves, Monster Reformation Alliance
The Top 16 will now be required to design Pathfinder Roleplaying Game statistics for an original monster concept and submit their complete monster write-up by 2:00 PM Pacific time on Friday, February 10. On February 14, Paizo will reveal judge comments on all 16 submissions to the general public, who will then get to discuss the entries and vote for their favorites. Voting ends on February 20, and the Top 8 (by votes) will move on to Round 4.
The ultimate winner of RPG Superstar, announced April 3, 2012, will write a Pathfinder Module to be published in early 2013. The 2011 RPG Superstar champion module, Sam Zeitlin’s The Midnight Mirror, releases in April 2012.

Stonepick Crossing

$ 12.00 SRP

The tiny thorp of Stonepick Crossing sits on top of an old dwarven dam holding. The dam was built some 500 years ago, ending a long war between a clan of dwarves and a clan of goblins that infested a highly-defensible cave complex. Recognizing the futility of direct assault, the dwarves built the dam to flood the goblin caves, flushing the foul creatures out of their caves and into the slaughter of honest combat. Now 500 years later, the dwarves have moved on and a small thorp has sprung up. The town is named for the dwarven clan leader who waged war against the goblins, Eltoren Stonepick. Near the protected town atop its dam, farmers till the soil around the lake created by the construction. 1st-3rd level characters

Down the Shadowvein

$ 14.00 SRP

You carefully load your canoes and launch into the fast-moving waters of the underground river named Shadowvein. The Pod-Caverns of the Sinister Shroom behind you, the veracity of the map that is to be your guide into the dark unknown will soon be tested. Hopefully what is written is accurate, but if it is not, your wits, wile, and brawn should serve you well as you journey down the Shadowvein! Down the Shadowvein picks up where The Pod Caverns of the Sinister Shroom left off, but it can be played by those who have not explored that module. Down the Shadowvein continues in The Mouth of the Shadowvein. 3rd-5th level characters
